Title: (NGC) -Thought this was strange with a new Honda engine
Post by: Gliderjohn on September 04, 2016, 08:56:30 AM
Bought a new power washer that uses a Honda engine. The box contained a pint of oil and a little spout. Set up instructions said using provide spout pour oil in engine. When I reviewed the owners manual (I really did) the oil section says that the oil capacity is 20 oz.
Doesn't seem to smart to me to provide 16 oz. of oil when the engine requires 20. I can see a lot of people just dumping in the bottle assuming that was the correct amount since that was what was provided.

I agree.  Me?  I'd have just put the oil in there and started it up.

Wonder if they send 16oz to make sure there isn't too much oil in there?  Or, is it one of the dry sump engines?

Maybe Honda leaves 4 oz. in the crankcase when they ship it? Just guessing....

The oil level showed too low with just the bottle worth in it. I put the additional four oz. in and the level came up to the full mark. Maybe I should drain it and measure the amount.
