There's a hex cap at the top (brass/copper?) that requires a 10mm allen head to remove. What spec. does that get torqued to when I am done? Thanks in advance.

I just tighten it to common sense tight. its just a plug after all.

:1: Just a plug .

Don't forget to ensure the plug has an o'ring fitted.

My thought exactly, but you just never know.

No o ring on this one. The parts blow up shows a "sealing washer" and that's what I've got.

When Charlie Mullendore rebuilt the heads on my LM 3, I'm pretty certain he said that it has an O ring under that cap. He'll probably clarify that shortly.

My advice would be to make sure you coppa slip or moly paste the threads on that little sucker & don't horse it up.
Like the front spar that goes through the timing chest its one of these items that seizes solid over time
The seal ring is an O Ring as I recall, well it was on my LM 1000.
I don't know the material but if you cannot get the Guzzi part I'd use a Viton ring or the like to make sure it can stand the temperature

I'll be sure to stick a small dab of anti seize on it. Thanks!

I stand corrected, you and SteveX are right on the above. The original plug did have an o ring on it (as shown on the parts diagram what is hard as heck to see when it's a copy and your eyes are getting older). My mechanic buddy replaced it 18 years ago with another plug from a different year Guzzi that used a copper washer. I also posted this question on the MGNOC Face Book page. I believe it was Charlie who verified the o ring originally being there. My mechanic buddy felt the original o ring was prone to leaking after a while.

whatever you torque it to, rest assured it will take a whole bunch more to remove it. IDKW
