Daughters v50 side stand seems odd. You have to hold it down or it self retracts. It has two springs and it seems as if it should stay down on it's own if the forward spring would only pass by the center line of pivot when in the down position. It doesn't. Is this a pre, electric safety switch safety measure, or is it messed up? Every old school bike I've ever had the side stands would stay down on their own.

That's the way it came from the factory.

Thank's Charlie! One less thing needing fixing around here. I cringe every time my daughter holds it with her foot as she lays the bike over onto it. She does seem to have it down . I keep telling her to get off the bike on the left side first and then deal with it, but she seems to prefer her method.

Here is how to fix your problem in a flash. Get a 'carabiner' clip, like the mountain climbers use, but a cheap $3 one will work fine. Clip it on the frame rail 2-3 inches forward of the current spring pin. Take the springs off the pin and attach them to the carabiner, and your done, problem solved!
I have to give credit to GuzziSteve for this one.
