Title: Any lemans 1000 owners in Maine???
Post by: spmoto on September 06, 2016, 07:57:51 PM
I'm seriously considering a Le Mans 1000. I've ridden one before, but years ago, and at 67 I'd just like to swing a leg over one to make sure it's still feasible. I'm in good health, relatively, and not looking to pile on major miles and I'm really better suited to this ergonomic layout than a Cal or the like. So, Anyone able to help out?
Thanks,
Steve
P.S. Of course I will come to you at your convenience

If my crippled old ass can ride it in relative comfort, im sure you would be happy with the ergos. Arizona is a bit far from you, but ,I would be glad to let you ride my 85. I can tell you it is a very fun ride , that I have taken 4-5 hour rides ,since owning it, and did not feel tortured afterwards. It is in its sweet spot at 4500 rpms rumbling down the highway at 80 mph or so.
Rick.

Chuck,
I know you had a LM V and passed it on to Rocker and it has since been passed on again. Can you give me your impression of the bike as you remember it and what you think of it as a" Sunday rider" with occasional two up duty? Anyone else is welcome to chime in as well.
Thanks,
Steve

Thanks Rick, That's a beauty you've got there!! Did it have the Corbin seat when you got it or did you add it? Also, do you ever carry a passenger?
Thanks,
Steve

Sure. It's a sled, but in a good way. Flickable is not in it's vocabulary.  What it is, though is a solid, good handling, good braking locomotive of a motorcycle. It's best when unleashed out on the open road.. not so good dinking around at slow speeds. Dorcia was good with it on pillion.

Thanks Chuck,
Not much dinking around in mind. Ain't but two stop lights between here and the Canadian border:)

Spmoto.  I am 68 and have an 89 Lemans.  I love this bike and find it comfortable to do 300 miles of canyon roads without discomfort. I prefer the stock seat over the Corbin but that opinion could change taking it touring.  I do have aftermarket clipons that are more comfortable than stock.  Get one and you won't be sorry.

Like most Guzzi's the reach to the  bars isnt as too much a problem and the clip ons are not as radical as they first look, but the high pegs in comparison to the seat means your knees and arse (ass) cop it. if you have long legs you will suffer. IVe ridden it distance 800 miles+, endurance rallys toured europe  and Im pretty used to uncomfortable bikes but id give it 4 out of 10 on comfort.

Pillion comfort is ok (The Mrs is 5'5"), she quite finds it comfy. Certainly better than most Japanese pillions.

Thanks for the kind words Steve. The Corbin was on the bike when I got it about a year ago. I also have the stock seat, and have tried it ....the corbin wins hands down IMHO. I have not ridden a passenger on it, but my son has ridden his GF as pillion ( 5'5" about 155 lb) and she was comfortable on a 2 hour ride. I really enjoy the Le Mans,  even with the "infamous"16" front wheel !
Rick.

The 16" is a good thing, as far as I'm concerned.

Hey SPMOTO,

I'm glad I didn't pass on the opportunity to own one of these.  I thoroughly enjoy mine. Good for you, go for it!

Ahh, he has an earlier version, still a LeMans.  The seating will be a bit different but not much.

Pretty sure i saw a white LM in Brunswick last week....i was in the bus and couldnt catch up...would that be the one you're refering to, Rob?

I'm guessing the OP lives in the county or Washington county, close to Canada...long ride....

Well, thanks everybody for the input but I procrastinated too long and lost the bike. I was  all set to send a deposit and then pick the bike up next weekend at the Sturbridge Mass. Italian bike event. Anybody here the lucky buyer?
