Did anyone make Harper's auction? I spoke to Curtis today about ordered parts, with all the hectic action I was suprized they answered the phone. Curtis told me they sold over 400 bikes. I was in lust over that Red 1100 Sport, I think I would have sold my first male born for that one , lucky for me I only had daughters and I couldn't be there for the sale.
-
That is fortunate for you. I understand they frown upon us selling our daughters for motorcycles. Don't ask how I know.
-
If I didn't already have too many bikes, scooters to maintain.......... :cheesy:
-
I bid on the green Lodola but didn't get it. I didn't attend. I bet it was a good time.

I went down Thursday for the preview but by the time I got there it was past 5PM and they had closed up shop. It looked like there were a bunch of "Heavy Hitters" with RV's, Tour buses, and 40 foot trailers... lots of dealers already there. It was wet, muddy and muggy, but the bikes were under tents. My buddy went the next day and said it was well attended. He only bought two bikes. It seemed to him that the bids went beyond retail for the condition most of the bikes were in, so he quit bidding. He did buy some gas tanks and a few other parts. Kind of anti climatic.
I had to work Friday and couldn't get off. Probably for the best, I have rotten luck at auctions and almost never find good deals.

Seems like the circumstances determine whether that's a Good Thing or a Bad Thing. Sounds like, in this case, we should look at it as a Good Thing for our friends the Harpers ..... !

I went, bought 11 bikes but they were rough ones for the most part...prices were high in my opinion...
-
Don't get me wrong, there were lots of bikes that sold for fair prices...I just couldn't afford them
-
20 years ago this would have been a poorly attended sale with a lot of bikes drawing no bids and going to who ever would haul them away. Thanks to the internet, there's a whole worldwide market for all kinds of obscure stuff. Got a guy who hangs around the local library with the rest of us who take advantage of the free WiFi who's buying up obscure junk at local auctions and Craig's list and sells it on eBay, amazing what people will pay for what most of us regard as junk.

Red 1100 sport was on the rough side. Had obviously sat outside for a lot of its life. Lots of corrosion on the bolts etc. The seat was cracking up, and it had been down lightly on its left side. Was one of the bikes I was there to watch. I didn't come home with it. It went somewhere in the mid 2000's.
I did snag the hungarian made Pannonia, and little brother got a 250 matchless scrambler and a BSA A10 basket case. He also got most of a pallet of brit parts from a guy that only wanted the Honda parts on the pallet. Got to love side deals.

With out seeing the 1100 up close I was reluctant to do an online bid through the auctioneer, but for under $3000 I think I would have had a hard time keeping my hands in my pocket. Someday when it's ment to happen I'll have one like it.

I'm really happy to hear that there was strong attendance and that everything sold. That tells me that there is an appreciation for Guzzi bikes. Maybe that same appreciation will lead to a better market for our used machines.

Eldomike I thought you did OK on some of those . I had to try real hard not to bid on the 65's, and had to restrain myself again when the ambo sold. Can't remember what the Zigolo brought, might have it written down somewhere. 400+ lots and it's hard to remember it all. I'm in the process of buying a farm right now or I would have gone a lot harder after some of the small guzzis. Those little guys just don't come up all that often.
-
Anybody remember what the GTV, trialce or ercole went for ??
-
I'm glad to hear a lot of it sold- hopefully for fair money. I am real disappointed that I couldn't be there, but my bank account is pretty happy. I would love to have a Galleto some day.

Put me on the list for that hardtailed Tonti frame......

I have actually wanted to build a Guzzi chopper at some point. Was thinking more loopframe though.
What's up with that 71 Ambo? Its right side shift.

Looks like it was converted from left foot to right foot shift, easy to do with the factory parts. Maybe the builder was "differently abled" and couldn't shift with his left foot.

Or possibly a Brit bike guy who still wanted to shift like he used to on his old BSA.

Just saw the Ambo listed on eBay.

I had been looking at the '93 SP3 Valtec custom on their site for years asking $7.5k, does anyone know the hammer price?

Neither one,
We just sold off my 45 year personal collection of vintage and antique bikes. There will be no changes to Harper's Moto Guzzi going forward.
This morning it was back to business as usual :1:
