I am being totally superficial here: I want to black out my bike. I HATE chrome.
I am fine with my stock exhaust other than the fact it's all shiny and chrome-y. I don't want to change the sound or the way it's running. It seems like my options are as follows:
either $800 - $1500 on Mistral, Arrow, etc. mufflers
or $150 for some crap at Dime City Cycles or eBay, and god only knows what it will do to the bike
Can anyone tell me if there's some utopian place out there that has another option? I do not subscribe to the ways of all these young guys I work with that just slap whatever they can find on a bike because it looks cool or sounds cool.
Also, thinking about black wrap on the headers. I've been warned about wrapping chrome, and was told once the wrap gets wet to make sure it doesn't just sit on the pipes wet or it will eat through. I have no experience with this, can anyone attest to that?
Again, the wrap isn't ideal, but I don't have a desire to spend $1000 on the Agostini black racing headers.
I've also looked into black matte ceramic coating what I have, but have been told by numerous people you just can't do that. No one can seem to explain exactly WHY you can't do that, though.
I'm aware of the fact I'm being a little ridiculous, maybe. If this does end up costing thousands, then I guess I need to learn to love what I have. =)
(I'm making a winter work list, so this exhaust stuff is on top of my suspension work if you guys are following lol)

I'm planning on having mine ceramic coated. I don't see why you can't, nobody had told me otherwise. I got an estimate from a local shop for around $200. If I'm lucky I'll get it done in a few weeks. I'll post when complete.

That would be fantastic tonUP, thank you!

I think removing the chrome plating would require an electro-chemical process (a large current through a large acid bath), something best left to professional plating shops.
I'm with you; chrome doesn't get you home. It should be on pirate ass jewelry, not Moto Guzzis.

Not sure why someone would tell you ceramic coating is not an option. WG member Dogwalker posted this pic a while back, and I thought it looked amazing:

I think that might be an Agostini system
I'm very interested in this post for an inexpensive solution to black headers /exhaust that works.

Did a bobber for a guy 20 some years ago. Sandblasted the entire exhaust system and sprayed it with satin black header paint. Looked good and I never heard back from the guy so must have lasted long enough for him to forget me LOL.
