Title: Eldorado 1400 passenger help
Post by: fess on September 21, 2016, 09:06:19 PM
I'm looking at a new Eldorado but the passenger accommodations are pretty sparse. We need at least a passenger backrest but the dealer says they don't make one. Apparently the California touring model is no longer available and the new Audace & MGX21 passenger accommodations don't look great either.
Small seats and No back rests there either. Guzzi riders don't carry passengers?
Anyone know of aftermarket back rests?  I can't find any.

Have you checked the AF1 Racing website?  They have a few backrest options for the 1400 Cali's.  Not sure if they work with the Eldo or not.

I did check and no luck. Oddly enough, when the Eldorado was first displayed at the shows
It had a backrest. Unfortunately they never put it into production.

The seat off the Touring will fit if the grab rail is removed. The grab rail from a touring would also bolt on, including the one with a back rest. The Touring rail with the rear rack might also work but there is a support bracket that mounts to a frame section under the fender for support. You would not be able to use that or you would have to fab a set of support brackets.

At any rate, the only thing keeping a different seat from going on it the rear grab rail. That comes off in a matter of seconds.

edit: Since Hepco Becker finally came through with bags and brackets, I'm hoping they may develop a grab rail with a back rest and some kind or rear rack. If so, I'm in. I'm pretty happy with the bags even though I would prefer hard bags.

Thanks for that info. FYI, I just called H&B and they have no plans for a backrest or grabrail for the Eldorado.

This is the setup on my Custom:

Corbin Seat and Hepco Becker rack and backrest.  Don't know if it fits the Eldorado or not but worth checking.  I'd ask Todd at Guzzitech - he carries Hepco Becker products.

The Touring model is still available on the MG USA website (but so is the Norge).  Anyway, I bet there are all kinds of leftover Touring models.

Yes, I would be surprised if you could not find a new Touring on someone's floor- check with Scoot Richmond in Richmond, Va.  They had one not long ago.

I'd be much more comfortable buying from my local dealer. Never had a Guzzi before and don't want to be to far from service.
I test rode an Indian Chief today. Boy, did i NOT like that!

Your dealer should be able to easily find a Touring model.  I can tell you it's a nice bike.  You can get a rear trunk with backrest on it too.

I am not enamored with the feet forward riding position but that's true for all the 1400 series bikes.
