I can't remotely believe I've never asked this before in my 12 or more years of following these bikes and previously owning four 1100 Calis, a Stelvio, a V7, and an 8V Griso, but I only really noticed the other day that spine frame Guzzi 1100s are listed as having a higher peak horsepower and torque numbers further up in the rev range? Maybe my research was just using bogus speced websites? If they are different, how so? The sites I saw had the same bore/stroke/compression listings but different power numbers for the two bikes. For any of you who may have owned and/or driven both, how big and what kind of difference are we talking about in terms of driving experience?

seat of pants experience only.. the Spine frame had more of everything over my Bassa's accept weight.

Sport vs LeMans 3.
The sport had a fair bit more top end and acceleration, was a pig to ride in traffic mainly due to poor carb setup.
For me the reach to the bars was quite long, foot pegs high enough to start cramps in my hips, so I found it less comfortable than a LeMans.
Power delivery, you just had to smile.
Things did improve somewhat when the fuel injected versions came out and people tuned them correctly.
Never saw a sport on a dyno, but that LeMans had 60 HP at the rear wheel and the unfettled sport had more power and torque, sensed by the backside accelerometer.

Hey Pete, IVe done exactly what your talking about here, took a LM5 and Inj Sport to the dyno. Sport tramped all over the LM with from memory 64Nm at 3500K and going up to peak power of 81 BHP. The Poor LM did peak power 64 BHP and less torque.
Strong motor.

Primarily different maps. I remember reading here about somebody putting a spine frame ECU on a.... Bassa I think.....which perked it up nicely.

Hey, my Grandfather was from Hawick but I'm pretty sure he never rode a Guzzi.

The timing chest cover is different. The engine mount holes thru the timing chest are higher up.
