Title: Evoloution of the early 750 Sport series
Post by: canuck750 on September 24, 2016, 03:14:30 PM
I don't know how long I will have these three brothers together so at least for posterity I thought I would share a few pictures of them side by side.

1973 V7 Sport

1974 750 S

1975 750 S3

Needs a 1000S to bookend the collection.

What kind of screen is that on the V7 Sport ?

That is a fascinating collection-and a LeMans on the end would be good too.

I always heard the 750S3 was a slower bike, more in line with an 850T. Is that your impression?

Add the 850 LeMans and a 1000S, and the family's complete.  Amazing to think Guzzi did the retro thing way back in '91-'93.

Awesome!

The screen is a Dart for the modern V7, fits perfectly.

I am just a custodian, I can't ride them all and I really don't want to keep all of the 750 series. I always planned on just having one of the 750 series, always thought it would be a V7 Sport but I like the 750S best.

Man, that is an amazing trio... Wow.

Liking those mid-mount side stands on the V7 and S, are they Brown's stands or is that the way they were from Mandello...?

Thanks for the eye candy.

Best,
Rob

Yes the side stands are the Brown model.

That answers my question . Beautiful bikes Jim  :bike-037:

Let's do be careful giving away storage locations , pretty sure non of our members would cause a problem , but since WG can be viewed by anyone ... Thanks  :thumb:

No problem - that was not the intent, it's just cool to see my old stompin' grounds. I lived in that city for nearly 30 years

I can't give you an answer, I have never started the 750 S3 and I did install a higher spec cam so that may throw off a true comparison + it has a lighter flywheel.

I don't understand the reports that stated the S3 was a lower performer, the S3 and the V7 Sport / 750S all have the same pistons and cylinders, the S3 uses a different head design with the bolt on header flange but has the same valves. As far as I can tell the only real difference is the S3 had a milder cam, how that effected real world performance is debateable. I bet the superior brakes of the S3 would make it the better all around bike.

My V7 Sport is all stock except for the lighter flywheel / clutch (RAM), and electronic ignition. It only comes alive over 4000 rpm and gets better as the rpm rises. The V7 Sport is never going to win a short race off the line, it's not a sprinter but it is a fine marathon runner.

The 750S is a mix of both, stock flywheel and clutch but with the B10 cam, electronic ignition, looking forward to see if I can notice the difference with a B10 cam.

Thank you, I've only read those comments from the UK press as obviously we never got the S or S3 in the States-it never made a lot of sense and I've never confirmed that the cam in the T3 was actually different anyway. Though I know the V7 Sport pistons had a very old school dome on them!

The 750S3 did have the standard cam as used in the T3 etc. The V7Sport and 750S had a wilder cam profile.
