Title: Oh Gawd ...... must I first type all my posts into Word?
Post by: ohiorider on September 28, 2016, 05:48:06 PM
I truly hate it when I sluff a keystroke, and blow away a post I've spent time composing.  The post probably meant more to me than those reading it, but what a pisser to blow away a post I've spent time composing, correcting, etc.  And it seems to be only a matter of hitting a couple of keys at the same time.  Can anything be done, aside from composing and editing in Word, then cutting and pasting the final version into WG  to prevent this from happening?

Sorry .... Its been a long day!

Bob

Using a text app is a good idea since it usually autosaves every couple minutes, IIRC (haven't used Windoze in 5+ years)...others with more smarts may chime in with configuration suggestions....you might try a quick response then go back and click on MODIFY which should give you more leeway for composing....HTH

Try terse. Briefer's better.

I've done that too many times. That's why I only do one line replies now.. Maybe two if I'm feeling like taking a big risk

You can left click and mouse over to highlight the text, right click, and hit "copy" occasionally, to put it into the buffer.  Later if you lose it, you can use the "paste" feature to put back what you copied.

Depending on your browser and operating system, try "Edit->Undo", or control-Z (windows, Linux), command-Z if on a Mac.

Yes, another good suggestion.

Or the shortcut version.
On windows, just occasionally tap control-A and control-C. Then when things go bad, just start a new post and tap control-V to paste the saved data in.

Click on the back arrow in the browser. For some errors it will recover all your work.

Click on the back arrow in the browser. For some errors it will recover all your work.

If the errant keystroke or mouse click marked all, or a lot of your text, continued typing will replace that marked text with the new text.     Undo (Control-Z or Command-Z, depending on OS) will recover the lost text.   The back arrow on the browser will cause it to be lost forever, as that will take you to the previous page.

That said, if you accidentally click on a link elsewhere on the web page that takes you to a different page, the back arrow will take you back to the post page, but, your text may or may not still be there depending on your web browser..
