Title: First track day
Post by: Lcarlson on September 29, 2016, 03:46:13 PM
Did my first track day this week at Lime Rock Park in NW CT. I rode my Beemer, and everybody else in my class (track novice) rode race replica sportbikes. Only a couple of the class of about twenty were first timers, so I got passed a lot (although I did pass two or three myself). I did run off the track once, but kept the bike vertical. All in all, it was both a humbling and enlightening experience, but one that I'm very glad I had. There really isn't any substitute for the track (with instruction from the coaches) to learn how to ride aggressively at speed, in relative safety. I learned that my bike and tires would take care of me at much greater speed/lean angles than I had known before. My formerly significant chicken strips are now mostly gone, and back on the street I can feel a difference in my riding. Not huge, but it's there. If you get the chance, this training is worth the effort.

I agree After 40years of riding I took a Keith Code school and was amazed at what I learned. I highly recommend it!!

I really wish there were such a thing in SD or an adjoining state.

Exactly so.

I raced (?) flat track for about 3 years, and took Keith Code's school twice at Mid-Ohio raceway in '85 and '86. I'm sure that saved my life a couple times since.
I roadraced bikes for about 20 years after that, and have dodged some serious hits knowing that only my track reflexes saved my ass. Anybody who can get on a track, should get on a track.

I've done them in cars and bikes.  It's totally different.

On Bikes you are looking as far ahead as you can see and following your eyes.

In Cars you are looking for the braking point to the apex point and following your eyes.
