Title: Distributor advance springs
Post by: Robert Sylvester on September 30, 2016, 02:23:03 PM
So I bought distributor advance springs for my '84 CA ll. The new springs don't look the same. One has round ends that go over the shafts but the other spring has oblong ends which go over the spring shafts. I've never seen any reference to these different springs in the factory service manual or Guzziology. Is the "pair" correct? And is there a certain way/location where they are installed? Thanks Friends.

The springs come on at different times with different rates.  They work together to restrict bob weight movement and keep the advance where it should be.  If you turn the top of the shaft against the bottom you can see that one spring catches while the other is still loose.

I'm not saying yours are correct -- haven't seen them.  But what you describe does sound reasonable.  So they might not look the same as each other, but do they look like the ones that came out?

My copy of Guzziology has a long detailed discussion of advance springs on pages 6-10 through 6-13. Very helpful.

They are 2 different springs on the weights, 1 round ends & 1 elongated ends. Match them like they came out.
Same as RK said.
If you need a pic, there is one in the G5/SP1000 workshop manual
EDIT: wasn't in that manual, could be in the V750 Sport/S3/850T/T3, I remember seeing it in one.
