Right.

Motorized bicycles made to look vintage-y. Not Indians or Harleys.
-
The crappy little Chinese engines with the fake long stroke crank case under them look, well, very fake. If you really wanted a nice replica, make the engine look more real, or better yet, produce a replica of the actual engines used on that era.

What's that thing hanging down from the top tube, with "Indian" printed on it?
-
What in hell does one do with a fake antique motorbike that can't be made street legal , has a junk motor , and no suspension ? Oh yeah , look at it and think , "Wow , I coulda had a V9"
Dusty
-
Exactly my thoughts - can't race it, not street legal, not collectable. What the heck is it good for?
-
It's possible that it could legally be a moped in many (all?) states.

Not in Oklahoma .

Now there is an image , a drunk Okie riding a fake antique motorbike . Probably more likely pushing either one of these

Get a "home built" title in Arkansas and make it a commuter or bar-hopper. :bike-037:

Huh. Here's the NC definition. If the engine is 50cc or less, and you make sure it won't go over 30, it would be a moped.
Moped Defintion
vehicle with two or three wheels with a motor of no more than 50 cubic centimeters of piston displacement and no external shifting device. Legally, a moped's top speed cannot exceed 30 mph on a level surface. Although some mopeds on the market have top speeds higher than the 30 mph limit, they are illegal for use in North Carolina. If a moped does not fit the above requirements, it must be registered as a motorcycle under North Carolina law.
-
Yeah. Same here. If it has a 49cc engine, it's a mo-ped and pretty much nothing is required by the State. Some cities (college towns) here require them to be insured.
-
Theres a sucker born every minute!!!
-
It's listed as having an automatic transmission? Trademark infringement? Would be interesting with what type of paperwork? If considered moped different set of rules for them. HI same as other states for size of engine and top speed. There's also the requirement of being a license driver.
Many people assume that you can ride a moped with no driver's license. Not true. Check your state's laws. A moped doesn't require a scooter endorsement on your license to operate one but still requires that the operator have a driver's license. Having a scooter endorsement doesn't mean that you can legally operate a motorcycle.
Some of the moped regs. have changed here too. The state saw that a lot of mopeds were being sold and another revenue stream to tap. They changed it where mopeds need inspections, scooter registration and motorcycle plates. No insurance requirements but scooter style registrations/titles. Prior to that mopeds where in the bicycle category. You had a registration sticker and a moped safety check. Might be the same in your state.

I did some more reading after your post. The moped laws in NC changed a lot this summer. Now a moped has to be registered, tagged, and insured, and the driver has to be at least 16 and must wear a helmet, but still does not have to have a valid NC driver's license.
They're popular around here among those who have lost their licenses for driving under the influence, so it makes sense to allow those people to drive a moped without a license, so they can get to work. At least it makes sense from that standpoint.
-
Looks like they can't be used in your state as a moped. Does a moped in your state have a title like a motorcycle?
-
No, just a registration. Things really changed this summer, and no one notified me.
-
Funny thing about laws being changed and enacted. The public is suppose to obey them even if they don't know it.

Can't remember how many times I kick (and kicked and kicked) started my old Triumphs til I was sober. Probably saved my life..... :boozing: Imagine the lives these POSs could save.
-
Same here with my HD Recon. Kick start, suicide clutch, tank shift.
-
I thought the "suicide" came from the shifter requiring the driver to take his hand off the bar to shift.
-

No, that's simply "hand-shift".
"Suicide" refers to a spring-loaded foot clutch that means you cannot put your left foot down at a stop, with the bike in gear.
-
Y'ep. Real fun in rush hour traffic. Gotta have a hand brake or you'll have fun on hills.
-
Yeah. The real badass chopper d00ds, back in the day, had both a suicide clutch and no front brake.
Quite a dance to stop and start on a hill with that setup!

Sorry, but looks like just more Chinese junk to me:(
-
Huh, after you posted that, Mike, I read a little about it. It seems that long ago, I fell for the misnomer usage of the term. Thanks to you and Tom for the education. :)
Now if we can get folks to stop using "fitment" to mean "fit".

Okayyyy......going racial and I don't mean it in a nice way.

As opposed to cheap American junk . Tom old man , I agree , although in this instance it seems maybe it wasn't meant as a racial slur , or let's at least hope not .

That is unless he meant the South China seas one. Which isn't what he meant. Using race as an adjective is racial especially if it has a negative tone. Is there any hint of where the parts are from? frame? Unfortunately, a big assumption is that everyone that post on this forum is white. Which is not the case.

Well maybe , although I am REALLY glad that the new Indians seem to a quality product
Seriously , if we parse this out , there is some cheap Chinese made stuff , not because of a lack of capability , but because of demand for , well , cheap crap .
AND , no , we aren't all Caucasian , or men , or any other particular type or group . What we are is a tribe of motorbike nut jobs

It is a discussion forum and without someone saying something then folks wouldn't know. Soooooo.....without clarification from Ncdan, we have to go on content alone.

Wait, wait, wait. Was that actually a (cue angels and dramatic music) a real, live, vintage, replica, Hardey Davidson?
OMG! I might pee myself!
Oh, wait... :boozing:

Better plan on using the bus, a taxi, or a bicycle in Virginia - There's no more legal "Dewies" here. If you're suspended for DUI you can't operate ANY motor vehicle on the roads including a sub-50cc moped ....
Not sure even the Dewies have all gotten the message yet though ...
Lannis

Yeah, Heaven forbid you'd have to power the vehicle with leg muscles.
-
I wonder what the titles say they are?

Same in Arkansas. A couple years ago, they updated the laws. DWI convicts who have suspended or revoked licenses cannot operate any motorized vehicle on public roads, even 49cc scooters. So, the "Liquor Cycle" loophole is gone.
