Title: 97 Cali Swingarm interchange?
Post by: wirespokes on October 24, 2016, 02:06:17 PM
I've got a 97 Cali I'm considering 'sporterizing'. It's got the longer swingarm and wonder which bikes have the shorter one that will work on this bike? What should I look for?

That thread is about the Magni Tonti swing arms. What I'm looking for is just a stock short swingarm that will work on a 97 Cali. Which ones will interchange?

All the pre-cal2 disk brake swingarms will 'fit', meaning the unit will go between the frame lugs properly.  Whether or not your brake/brake lines, wheel, centerstand, shocks, fender, DRIVESHAFT, etc also fit are matters for speculation.  I know the driveshaft won't work and the wheel area might be too narrow for your rim/rubber.  IIRC, the long wheelbase centerstand has interference issues and the shock angle will be radically different.  The frame is 3" longer back there, so the fender and wheel will be on different centers.  There is probably more that I can't think of right now.

Hope this helps.

I thought of doing this to a Cal 2 I just sold, even got the short swing arm and drive shaft. Like Roadkyll said there is a lot more involved in just swapping it out. But nothing that can't be handled with a cut off wheel and a welder!
