Title: Magic Gasket Removal Trick ?

Got a 12 year old valve cover gasket on my '04 Breva 750.

Some of it fell apart and the rest is stuck on like welded steel. Cleaned it up  best I could but the new gasket leakes a lot.

Any one know of magic solvent or special technique to be rid of all the old ?

Search works fine, but I use Perma Tex gasket remover in a rattle can. Spray it on, let it soak a while, scrape it off. Be aware that it is also a quite effective paint remover..  :shocked: so don't get it anywhere you don't want it.

Angle grinder with a medium scotch brite roloc disk.

 The "Search" function window can be elusive . Click on the multicolored Wild Guzzi . com window top right and then click on General Discussion, Search should appear .

You can also use "Aircraft Remover" paint remover. I use the stuff in the quart can that you brush on and use an acid brush to apply it.

I have just replaced the old green gaskets with the black ones. I used a mix of Acetone and acrylic spray thinners, a cloth and a very strong thumbnail. Took a bit of effort but the surfaces cleaned up nicely. New ones don't leak.

Aircraft remover.....leaves the paint.
