Title: San Diego Suzuki
Post by: pehayes on October 29, 2016, 03:04:34 PM
I'm hosting an adventure rider.  He's heading south with some lingering minor bike issues.  Can anyone recommend a competent Suzuki mechanic in the San Diego area?  The local one here wasn't helpful.

What issues are you having?  What bike?  There is a independent shop in Poway called Poway Cycle 858-748-6811.  Bill Cain is the owner with Bud as the mechanic.  These guys are very good and diagnosing and fixing problems.  I highly recommend them.

Sorry about neglecting details.  2013 DL650 V-Strom.  Bike starts, idles, operates just fine.  Downhill and back off throttle for engine braking and it kicks an FI code.  Code C65 = "idle speed out of range".  But, we're doing 4K rpm in 5th gear.  What idle?  Forum recommendations for clutch switch but that device checks out OK.  Forum recommendations for 'gear position sensor'.  Changed with no improvement except lightening the wallet.  Seems to me it is a high vacuum condition.  Easily repeatable.  CPU doesn't store codes, so it goes away as soon as you switch off.  Can go hours down the freeway without triggering.  Downhill with chopped throttle hits the trigger once again.  Forum people and dealer are stumped.  Hoping to find someone with experience before these riders venture into Central America.

Give the guys at Poway Motorcycle a call.  Describe the problem and see if they can help.  These guys are pretty sharp it's worth a phone call.

Veys Powersports in Lemon Grove seems good.

He needs to see a dealer who has the current Suzuki Diagnostic System 2 "small module". The dealer can attach the module, test ride the bike and catch/record the fault code in real time. At least that is the theory. Probably best to call the dealer before you make the trip.
Good luck.
