So this came today. $15 and with Prime it was here in two days (Sunday delivery!). Plugged it into my Mac and fired up Quicktime Player. Makes it super simple to view and capture the video. There is also a brightness control for the lights.
I shot a quick video just to try it out. And so you guys could criticize my bore.

Are chrome bores honed?
Anyways, I'll get better at the videos and post more of them... just to annoy you.
-
A useful tool, especially for that price
-
I see what looks like a chip out of the chrome dead ahead inside the bore. It first shows up at 0:24, and again at 0:37-0:40.
You need to not run that motor anymore until you've replaced the cylinders, and checked the rest of the motor from possible damage caused by chrome flakes.
-
Wow, what a tool :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
I thought chrome bores were not honed, I can't remember what my Nikasils were like/
Do the magnet test.
-
The price has dropped to $12 including shipping. I just bought one, which I will use to see if I have an all-metal or half-plastic fuel filter in my V7II Stone. For that price, it's easier than having to take the tank off and remove the fuel pump assembly just to satisfy my curiosity. The Amazon listing says it's waterproof but says nothing about fuelproof, so I'll wait until my tank is nearly empty before I check the filter with the boroscope. "I'm going in there, Scotty"

I saw that too.
Is anyone else surprised how clean that combustion chamber is for 90k miles?

Outstanding find, Swoosh. I've been wanting a borescope for years and years now. Been deterred by the big prices and small screens. Soon's I saw this one, I ordered it.
Thanks a mil. IOU a cigar or two for the rec. Shoot me an addy, I'll hook you up.
Just waiting for delivery now.
-
Just ordered the thing, all ways wanted something like this and cant believe they are so inexpensive now!! thanks for the post..

Just think of all the money you can save doing your own colonoscopies. <Guzzi content>
-
Do the magnet test.
This ^^^. First thing I do when the cylinder material is in question is a stuff a pencil magnet in. Can't believe you haven't done it yet. I guess it's too easy? Answers the question without a doubt, no real need for a borescope afterwards.
-
Much better the my Harbor Fright (2 gen first one was pretty good till it broke) which is worthless. Dosen't focus closs, not wide enough.

That's what I was thinking. DIY colonoscopys. Maybe setup a kiosk at rallies

Coincidentally I had my colonoscopy on Wednesday. Wisely I paid someone else to do it...
-
I can't find the $12 one listed in my search. Maybe the scopes they are selling cheaper have already been used for a colonoscopy.

The magnet test is waiting for episode two.
No one has answered by question yet... hone marks on a chrome bore? I did a search and someone said no. Is that correct?
-

If you have Prime they will show the higher price. Or they have changed it already.

both of my V7 Sport original chrome bores have no hone marks, mileage was around 14,000 miles

The magnet test negates the need for any "episodes". Results in five minutes.
No hone marks on an original chrome bore.

The next episode will be the magnet test. The camera comes with a magnet attachment.
So with the camera we have already established it's not an original chrome bore. Does it really matter if it's iron or Nikasil at this point?

We haven't established it's not chrome at all. What if somebody in the last 40 some years ran a hone in a chrome bore? Just stick a magnet in there and be done with it. :violent1:
-
Geee, thanks.
I just paid off the Visa......and just ordered one.

I said "magnet first", but actually I do that second. First is to look at the cylinders, between the two bottom fins. If it has Gilardonis already installed, there will be a rectangular shaped "pad" there with the name cast into it. Cost: $0, time: about 15 seconds.
-
Those are hone marks ?

No pad.

That's what they look like to me. The crosshatching is pretty unmistakable.
I'll get better with the camera. I'm thinking of attaching some copper wire to it so that it will hold a shape. Right now it just dangles on a cable. I think it's designed to be attached to something like a snake or other device. You could easily use it for sewer inspection.

OK , viewed on my computer and not my phone , yeah , does look like hone marks . Still , what is that chip ?
Dusty

They're on Amazon here too! Couldn't resist at that price so I've ordered one. Thanks for the tip!

Don't know. Probably flaking chrome... :boozing:
I hope to get to the garage tonight and get a magnet on it.
-
I bought one 2 years ago for $13, and it has been well worth the price. Have used it on water drain lines (kitchen sink plugged), Gas tank on an old Kawasaki and a couple other things. If you hold it right you can even look in your ear for earwax buildup.
-
Looks like a little erosion on the piston crown... might be detonation and or pre ignition... Or just the way it is....
-
the beats Harbor Freight by $65.

Charlie is going to have an aneurysm but the magnet attachment is too big for a spark plug hole. I don't think I have a magnet to fit. Need to head over to Harbor Freight one of these days...
In the meantime I need to stick it in my ear to check the wax.

Well, the price of the OP's product has shot up to almost $18 today.
No doubt, the hundreds of thousands of Guzzi owners in the US have flocked to Amazon for buying one and driven the price up.

Considering that comparable products use to cost thousands is a few dollars really a problem?
There are hundreds of similar cameras available on Amazon, some more expensive, some less.

To me the bore looks to be nikisil. Looks very much like my mk3 LeMans bore through my borescope.
Small chips are not unusual in that area.
Hone marks at 90,000 miles? It sure isn't chrome.
My opinion only, done the magnet test yet?
-
He has to find a smaller magnet or go through the exhaust port.

Do I need to get my bike drunk before going in the exhaust port? I mean we've only been dating for a couple months...

Make sure you use enough lube.  Take it to the Bagdad. Pet it's headlight. Have a couple of pints.

0.3 MP is not a lot of resolution, maybe not enough to see cylinder bore honing lines, etc.

You might be lucky to make out if there's a piston.

The waiting is the hardest part. I just got notice that my unit, ordered Oct. 31, has shipped, expected arrival between Nov. 29 and Dec. 15. I suppose it's coming from the Far Far Far East.

I was lucky to catch mine on Prime. I think it took a day or two, and delivered on the weekend.
