I have been looking for a second MG 97 1100 EFI Sport, and I did locate one with 25K miles on the engine, which was a original factory yellow bike, but the first owner didn't like the yellow, so he had it painted MG red. He also painted the rims, mirrors, and added red leather to the passenger seat. The bike has the performance chip, K&N air filters, and carbon exhaust.
I like the looks of this bike, and I believe that both the current and the previous first owner had taken good care of this bike. The thing that I don't know is the lifespan of a MG engine? My 97 1100 Sport has only 7.2K miles on the bike, so I know that I will be good for years to come.
So, assuming that the engine, clutch, and the transmission of the bike that I am looking at now was not abused and serviced as required, then what milage should I expect to get before the engine, clutch, or transmission would be in need of rebuilding? I fully understand that any of the items could fail at any given time, even if new, so yes, I am only looking for an average lifespan.
Also, what should be looked at on the maintenance schedule now, not knowing the true history of this bike?

Hundred Thousand Plus, with good maintenance and non-abusive riding.

I'm at 163 000kms on my spot it still has the factory unis if you grease them every service they go for a while. We did do the top end on the motor about 20 000kms ago and by the amount of torque I got back it was pretty worn. Clutch is original on the third timing chain fist one done at 90 000kms second on turned over with the top end rebuild. This that have worn out that cost fair wad of money, final drive splines on the wheel/final drive bearings still orginal. Forks hard chroming and all the buses etc athough the WP forks ont he efi bikes aren't damper rod so might go a bit longer. Plus the usual swing arm bearings numerous sets of head stem bearings the stupid shock mounts that hold up the dash (not cheap either) carb needles seats and slides although I'm running FCR's.

I bought her today for $4.5k. I'm going to pick her up, and take her back to NC, from Michigan next week. She comes with an additional gas tank, the original turn signals, exhaust, wind-screen, and air-box. I'm also getting the bike stand, a Corbin tank bag, and a complete set of factory manuals.

If you want to ride some of the back roads between Raleigh and the VA border sometime, email me. Last week a friend of mine and I met a Durham rider in Butner. We had lunch, and then the three of us rode all around the countryside, parting ways just south of Virgilina.

NICE! I happen to really like yellow on the 1100 Sport, and they seem to be pretty rare.
25K is nothing on a Guzzi - Just broken in.

I too wish that she were left alone and still be in yellow. The good thing is that I have all parts to get her back to original configuration, and I may one day repaint her back to her MG yellow.

once it's been painted take your choice.
It's never going to be original again.

I'd park the original one inside the house, and use the other for thrashing. Best of both worlds!

That is the plan my friend!
I'm going to use the low milage, and mostly original one for shows and the occasional weekend short trip ride, and the one I just bought now as my toy. It is nice that I am getting the original exhaust with the new bike, so I am going to have all components to make my low milage bike all original again, if I were to choose of doing so.

All original Spot would be worth preserving. Congrats on taking care of this classic!
