Looks (mostly) like an early "A-series" Ambassador, but that would have been right-foot shift and his is left, would have had Dellorto SS1s and his has VHBs. So, it's been changed quite a bit - no surprise, many have.
His claims of "only 100" aren't quite true - judging from the "Loop List", it appears there were around 500 of the "A-series" Ambassadors built, all in Dec. of '68, sold as '69 models.
I don't agree with his accessment of the wiring or cable routing. The wiring in particular is one of the simpliest of any full-size motorcycle and works well if connections are kept clean and tight and it's not "messed with" (modified to add circuits, higher wattage bulbs added, etc.). My '69 still has it's original wiring and functions perfectly. <shrug>

What Charlie said. I have an A-series ambo and the wiring has never been touched other than replacing the pillbox light horn switch ( plastic toggle was broken).
I'm even running the original plug wires. No problems.

Might he have been referring to the limited number of bikes shipped from Italy to Canada that year? I see that the bike sports a British Columbia Canada collectors license plate.

IIRC, the Berliners/Premier Motor Corp. were the sole importer for both US and Canada.

Only reason I mention it is not to take away from the bike or the owner, but to try to stem the sort of "urban legend" things that are so easy to propagate on the Internet.
I have a '69 BSA Firebird Scrambler, and so I keep close tabs on the documentation, the on-line sales, club newsletters, etc regarding this bike. There were something over 2000 of these bikes imported back in '69, so they're not rare even today, and a nice one can be had for $4000.
HOWEVER, the rumor got started that only 300 of them had been imported, and so every time you'd see a CL or eBay ad, this figure would be quoted by the hopeful seller.
Then a year or two ago, the number got cut to 200, and so THAT'S the number you'd see quoted in advertisements.
It was all just nonsense, but once someone saw it in an ad, they'd copy it over to their OWN ad, sort of closing their eyes to the idea that it may be a bogus number, since their financial interest was in the number being as low as possible .....
