I've got a 2000 Quota with a sick gearbox. Does anyone in the lower forty eight have (a) the Moto Guzzi tool that holds the input shaft still, or (b) a workable suggestion on how to do that such the nut can be removed?
Thanks in advance.

I used to use a large angle iron wedged in the clutch hub against the outer case. Then I made one out of an old clutch plate, drilled out the center rivets and went to a blacksmith friend. He cooked up a handle & riveted it in place.

Vise grip type of welder clamps with the jaws "tuned" to fit the hub teeth.

^^^ I made a tool out of an old clutch plate. If you want an old clutch plate center to make a tool with, let me know and I'll send you one.

Might be good for you to report where you are located. Might be someone right down the street. If you don't put it in your account profile, then put it in your signature line. I have the tools and have loaned them in the San Francisco Bay Area.

BTW, I see you have an SPII as do I.

Old clutch plate with a bar welded to it for me also.
-
Old clutch plate with a hole drilled near the circumference piece of strap to a flange bolt hole, under tension of course.
Bolt the gearbox to a length of lumber to hold it steady.

The old clutch plate solution... So obvious now that I see it. And so cheap. :thumb:

I use a small claw hammer as a sprag.

Thank you, [Testarossa], for the new word in my vocabulary:

When I had my Eldo, I learned never to throw old parts away. The uses that get found...

The old clutch plate worked for me (thanks be to Pete Roper who had an old one lying around).
Where would we be without W.G. and the fine people who frequent it? :thumb:

Always good input. :thumb:

I never bother with special holding tools, I just use a healthy 1/2" drive impact wrench and zap that sucker off. DonG
