"Oh, yeah.. I can fly this thing.. just show me how to get her started.."
Well, there's a certain amount of truth there. Who is going to check you out?
-
Wonderful!!! It has been a long and very involved project. Damn, that plane sounds good!

You may be cool, but you'll never be chasing a restored B29 in a P51 Mustang "Miss America" cool!

Ha! All the prep and procedures for starting a 3350 is time consuming and...well...compli cated!!
:-)
No worries , stood behind the FE more than once during start up on a KC97 , didn't look all that hard
"Wait , what does this control do , and what is that beeping sound?"

Did it have a little boy or a fat man on board?
-
The historical emphasis on the weapon carried has overshadowed what a engineering marvel the B-29 was,...light-years of advanced design and development crammed into a few short years....remarkable aircraft!
-
Kewl video rod. Looks like it's barely moving
-
The Soviets kept a few B-29 and reversed engineered (Tu-4). It would have been interesting to get feed back from the guys that did the reverse engineering and their opinions on how Boeing built it.
-
It is my understanding that more money was spent and the overall project was about as complicated at the Manhattan project. Concerning Soviet reverse engineering, I have read (maybe an urban myth) the first one done included dents and all from the captured B-29 because Stalin wanted it "copied".

What a beautiful machine! It is difficult to believe anything that sleek is now over 70 years old.
