A very nice example of one of the best looking Guzzi sport models.
Ambitious asking price, but IMHO, probably worth it.

26K miles at $5k.
Dream time's over, time to get to work.

The owner makes reference to Myers Ducati in Asheville. When Jim Myers was alive that was the best Guzzi dealership on the east cost.

Ambitious price, but as the seller noted the Termignoni exhaust and the Marvic wheels are rare and expensive.
To an average motorcycle buyer, these things probably don't matter. But, to someone into the spine frames, those two items may make a difference in the price.
Those things were hard to come by when the bikes were new, and just not available at this point.
The Sport 1100's stock wheels are really heavy. Marvics and Dymags were popular upgrades, back in the day.

Very salient point Mike, those are very tasty options. The whole package is bloody gorgeous and if it wasn't for the fact that I spent 12 years with three of these, I would pursue this one.

What's the crowd's verdict on price here?
Having second thoughts on letting the community in on this - I can't go look now.
-
Looks like a nice bike. I wouldn't say it's a deal. Probably a grand too high...... However if it's close nice and u want it, go for it. One of the prettiest guzzis. The later injected bikes look the same and have a lot of improvements. Just a matter of what you prefer.
-
That is Alan's bike
He's big into dualsport now but I have seen this bike at the wedge many times and Alan comes to our brewery regularly, good guy.
He also had a blue F/I sport that he sold about a year and a half ago.. He knows bikes and I can attest he is fastidious about maintenance. The bike is a stunner, but yes it is a rider not a garage queen... IIRC he has the stock airbox in the garage... not sure about the stock wheels tho

Hey Nic you wanna go halfsies on this thing? If you have somewhere to store it I'm sure a visitation agreement can be worked out :boozing:

Price is irrelevant. Either you have the money and want it ( No and yes for me ), or you don't.
As for the unobtanium parts on the first bike, my unsolicited opinion is at least the second one doesn't have those goddawful logos on the pipes. I know for some people that works just fine, but I'm allergic to logos, and have to be careful which ones I consume or I get side effects.
Oh, and if you want to sell it as about sixty shares at a hundred dollars each I'll buy one

That's the best offer I've had in a long time. No way I can swing another bike though. Garage space is way too tight. Two little ones under 6 with all that means $-wise. See you for a beer soon though Chad!

That's a lot of Italian motorcycle for the money if you ask me!

I almost want to clean it up for display at the brewery but we have a 10bbl system and 4x20bbl fermenters plus a second walk-in cooler on order..... space is going to get mighty tight in there over the next couple months

Hi Nic,
I thought so too, so I drove (round trip 1250 miles) from Raleigh up to Ann Arbor Michigan on Tuesday, and came back with this little beauty in the back of my Tacoma late Wednesday night. The original asking price was $6k, but he dropped the price, and I paid $4.5K for her. I also did get a lot of extras with this bike. I received a hand written maintenance record log, every parts and dealer invoice since new, a new Metzler front tire, a twenty year old new spare tank, the entire original exhaust system, a complete set of MG Sport 1100 shop manuals, oil filters, luggage tank bag, extra new tinted wind screen, engine gasket set, paddock racing stand, every part that was ever taken off, and more.......
Glenn, the second owner, whom I bought the bike from, owned her for the last ten years, and he only rode her for a total of about 3000 miles. This bike was sitting for almost the last ten month without having been ridden, so I'm going to spend a couple of days changing all of her fluids, filters, and giving her a tuneup. This bike does sound great, she has a nice deep rumble! She has the performance upgrade chip, exhaust, and K&N installed, and I really like the cruise control throttle lock and the corbin seat on this bike. I will however re-install the main air box with a K&N filter, since I prefer the closed in look better that seeing the big frame behind the filters. But, that is just my preference.
ps: I already had the passenger seat re-leathered in black marine grade lather. The red seat was damaged, and I really didn't like the red to begin with.

Now that's fantastic! It looked great in the mgnoc ad, glad you connected with the owner. These are special bikes and hands down the best looking from the rear and profile of any bike imho. This board has people that can solve any little bothers that come up so enjoy!

Score!

What???......you buy the Asheville bike?
-
Nope, Medic bought the other bike that I posted from mgnoc classifieds.
-
It's a beauty for sure.
-
If I were a bit more nuts - I'd buy it just for the Marvics!
Todd.

Almost all the Sports are $4500 bikes all day everyday. That`s what I paid for mine 7 tears ago and that`s what it would sell for now.

How's 5th gear???

How's 5th gear???
Hi Tom,
I assume that this question about the 5th gear is for me?
I rode her only one time for less then a minutes, since she was sitting for the last ten month, so I'm planning on servicing here first, and also to replace her front tire, which is worn down to the metal belt at places. But she shifted up and down through all gears as my other 97 does. At least she did when I took her for a quick ride! Do you know anything about this bike that I should know? I'm new to owning MG bikes, so any feedback or knowledge about this bike, or the 5th gear that you have is appreciated.
Andy
ps: Can't believe that the last owner is a professor at the University of Michigan and thought nothing of wearing a tire down like this to nothing! I was not even able to lean to steer the bike in curves, so the test-ride speed stayed at a very low speed.

Why would you think a university professor is special? They are usually cheap with no common sense and only knowledgeable about what they teach.

5th gear is a non-issue for 1997 bikes. They have helical gears.
The Sport 1100 5th gear problem is on the 1994-1996 bikes, which have straight-cut gears.
Some folks have had the 5th gear fail.
My 1996 Sport 1100 with 35000 miles has not had this problem.

Thanks for your reply and your clarification about this 5th gear comment. I started to worry a little!

My '96 has a 5th gear that needs replacing. Synthetic lube helps. It's red. My Black one is fine but has low mileage on it. The '97s are fine because of the helical gears. So, I dunno.

Not all the '97's have helical gears. After a certain serial number on the gearbox they are, before that number they are not. Can`t remember that number but a little research will find it. Most have the later gearbox serial number.

Yeah...not sure. The same trans. is in the Centauro and Daytona RS. AFAIK.

Alan was in the tasting room last Saturday, I asked if he sold the Sporty... He says no it is still available... and admitted he's probably asking on the high side... I think he NEEDS to sell it but doesn't WANT to sell it. Still floating around out there. I can't believe MedicAndy hasn't added it to his
harem er stable yet...
-
Hey Chad, what's Alan asking? The original cl ad expired. Also, no fair taunting MedicAndy, we know he can't resist the Spot's allure!

Jeez, I admit I live in an isolated country, but that's the worst tyre I've ever seen in use. Judging by that example, I should be able to go out and get my knee on the deck with one year old Pilot 4's. BTW, does anyone (other than me), think 17,500 km on a set of Pilot 4's is unusually good ? I swear they've got 1500 good k's left. 'Best I've seen personally.

I also thought that he was asking a little much for his bike, since I believe that the miles were in the mid 30k miles, if I remember correctly...
However, I am still looking for two more 97 or newer 1100 Sporti's. I'm looking for a lower milage black and another one in silver, which will complete my collection. So please keep me in mind if you see or hear of one for sale!

I think it was priced at $5600, with the Marvic wheels and the full termignoni treatment. it's a rider, bout 30kmi but very well maintained and beautiful... I've seen it 3-4x at Wedge

Havn't kept exact track but about 16 000kms out of the current sport touring bridgestones seems to be about right I piss them off as soon as they hit the tread limiters.

Sad Piaggio moved Guzzi away from this style and moved it to the Aprilia.

And.. I assume you cane the tits off it regularly? I understand that riding one like an (ahem) old lady is really hard on the straight cut gears.
-
I don't thinking riding a motorcycle like "a little old lady" is prudent unless it's assembled in the USA (unless it says Buell on the tank) makes any sense to me.

Redline in fourth is about the correct time to hook fifth. Not as much as i used to current bikes are better it gets a good run when I run it.
