Done extremely well and looks gorgeous. The rear fender actually extends past the axle and doesn`t look like a dog that`s had it`s tail clipped. :thumb:

It's a shame the gigantic license plate messes up the look of the rear fender.

That's one heavy duty instrument mount. It must weigh five pounds! I wouldn't kick it out of the garage because of that though.

Yep, nice clean build without going over the top. Lets face it though its not rocket surgery is it. Just basic skills and time which is fine by me and should be motivation to many here.
Two things though, the instrument housing assy is rediculious bulit out of steel, just what you dont need is extra useless weight on the fork assembly.
And whats with the riding around in circles at a cross roads intersection with a blind crested bend on one side? I know its looks like country and little trafficed, but still it was a totally pointless excercise and a little dumb for mine.

Funny, Spelling isn`t Rocket science either, and just requires basic skills learned in school, which seem to be lacking. Let me help, rediculious=ridiculous, bulit=built, trafficed=trafficked and excercise=exercise .

Very nice work. Love the color and tank shape. But to my eye, a cafe racer looks more "racer" when the rear of the seat stop doesn't expend past the rear axel and the first thing I would guess the original cafe guys did was bin the crash bars.

Love it! Really nice bike!
I like that he keeps all the practical stuff like proper fenders, side covers and such. Next job on mine is making a tool box and sidecovers to replace the big hole in the middle :grin:
Also like the tank! Nice with some inspiration for the next bike.

Doesn't that go for the person correcting them too? I mean, if they point out a few errors but miss others, they are not being 100% correct in their criticism as well, no? :boozing:

I agree with Phil that the instrument cluster could have been done a little more lightly, :smiley: but in general, a nicely done cafe that is *practical* to ride.

seeing these new Sporty Sporsters, Triumph Bonnies, Beemer 9T and all these new retro bikes, makes me think Guzzi should try something like that.
Maybe a 2 valve, 1100 pushrod engine, steel frame, roadster styling? Maybe a cafe versioning too, maybe they could could name it after a famous race track?
I don't think they have to do anything overly radical and overly tech, something really wild like linked brakes or tubeless spoked wheels -I mean Guzzi wouldn't have the capital to do all that.
If only they had the talent and capital to build a bike like that.

Does anyone have any idea what his exhaust choice was? It looks like a standard T3 , G5 head pipe and crossover, but what is it behind that? The upsweep and muffler?

Well, in that thread i got the impression you were selling a Tonti Guzzi as viable for this.
I'm not against the idea of a 1200cc Guzzi, classically styled, to take on the Sportster, Bonnie, or 9-T, I just don't think you're going to do that with a Tonti.
Maybe something new. I don't think you'll get the power and emissions out of a 2V clean sheet design, but I've got nothing against them.

yes, the Tonti frame. I don't see a lot of room for improvement for a standard-sport or cruiser-tourer design.

I hear you but here are the concerns I think would need to be addressed:
* Wheelbase - couldn't use the California swingarm, need to shorten it up a tad. The Cal's were coming in at 61.4" even the Sporty is 60", and the new Triumphs are 55.7-56.9"
* Charging system - I think that crankshaft arrangement would have to go for an alternator, which means the Tonti frame itself would need some changes or the block needs to change. But I believe the competition all has much higher output systems. This isn't just needed for heated gear and driving lights but for ABS and TC systems too.
* Quirks - vent systems that run to the frame, dual-throttle bodies that require synchronization (and cause troubles at the incompetent dealer and DIYer level), and frankly startus-interruptus. They'd have to change things like this to be competitive. Sorting just needs to be a thing of the past.
* Motor - and here's the big one - like I said, even Harley Sportster is now putting out more hp while still putting out much more torque, so we can't even discuss the T120/Thruxton in this comparison. So even the 2V Tonti with Breva1100 engine internals doesn't cut it anymore. And I don't know if the 4V would be the solution, they aren't EU IV compliant either. So what are they going to do, increase capacity and/or go water-cooling?
I think that last one is the key - they have to do something. Maybe this is all moot and they already are in terms of development of a new water-cooled 1200 or the like, but we've not heard any real rumors (other than a new Stelvio in the works).
Maybe the 850 platform can or will be further upsized to meet that demand. I assume that would mean a new block and essentially new motor so that might not make as much sense as pursuing a water-cooler.
But I like the IDEA of a mid-range, standard, maybe classically styled bike - As well as the CARCs performed they never appealed to me visually (shy of maybe the Griso, but even there I had reservations). Something like a retro-Café would have way more appeal to me, like the current V7 line.
I'm just saying that love my old Jackal like I did, I DO think the motor and chassis are long in the tooth and cannot compete in today's market.

That's fine, doesn't change my points, but neither does it address those problem areas.
Personally I guess I'm left with a preference for a rubbermount Sporty.
My Jackal was fun, but too much trouble and I never warmed to the shape of the tank and side covers.
