On initial startup, my 2013 Stelvio flashes the red triangle and the word SERVICE on the dashboard. I toggled through the menu under diagnosis and see no codes or errors under ECU and Dashboard. It only does this on initial startup, when cold. The next bunch of startups throughout the day do not trigger the light show. I have erased the 6,200 mile service schedule numerous times but thats not it either. Any ideas??

Oil pressure switch? Gasket blown out between sump spacer and crankcase?
-
Gasket looks intact with no leaks. I agree with oil pressure switch. Would hot oil make the problem go away for the day?

Nah, they blow out around the galleries between the spacer and the crankcase. you can't see it without dropping the sump and spacer. Do the switch first, thats easy.

Will do. Many thanks!

On initial, cold startup....
Does the motor spin over smartly? You may have low voltage from the battery. Once it runs and charges up a bit, the problem may be subsiding a little. Check the battery.
A quick test would be to jump over from another battery on an initial cold start and see if the message pops up.

Leafman mentioned the battery...the OEM battery is known to leak. I'd take a close look at the battery and even pull it out just to make sure it has not started to leak. There are lots of threads about this Stelvio only problem.

Funny thing is, this light show started after I changed all fluids, synced the throttle bodies, reset the TPS, checked/adjusted the valves, new tires, and get this....brand new out of the box motobatt battery replacing the three plus year old original which didn't leak
I'll throw the battery on the a charger to see if that helps

Dang!
Jump start it from another battery and see what happens.

Do those filters have an anti-drainback valve internally? Maybe the oil is draining out of the pump when parked and it takes a couple of seconds to prime.
-
Battery has nothing to do with it. If it was low voltage the ecu would not even let the bike start. There is no service light for a low battery
What type of oil did you use and what brand of filter. This has happened before with incorrect oil or filter. The 8v is rather sensitive to it.

Nobody told my Stelvio that. I had the same symptoms for a while until I tested and changed my battery.
It would start but I could tell something wasn't totally correct. It would also pull the warning message. After testing and changing the battery, all has been fine. The issue was mostly on the first cold start of the day.
There is also a "Low Battery" warning (ECU20) but that did not always trigger even though the warning triangle would pop up.

Tighten the nut behind the handle bars?
:afro:
-
I used a UFI filter and two quarts of Motorex 10/60 and a dash of Agip 10/6O.... I didn't have enough of one brand or the the other so I played bartender and mixed away...
The nut behind the handlebar is in a confused unstable state and is hard to reach...

You should be fine with that as long as it is the spec'd filter.
Any chance you can get you hands on guzzidiag or a reader to read the codes. May be an ecu error and won't show up on the screen as it does not log them like the dash errors but does keep them in memory.
I would think if it was the pressure switch there would be a code in the dash errors but may be possible. I had a similar thing happen with an engine temp sensor. Only did it at startup. Connection was just loose

Since the dashboard codes don't keep the code in memory, it likely won't show in GuzziDiag either.
I believe that oil pressure codes are only remembered if that last over 15 seconds or so. And these events are short enough that they aren't being recorded.
I would do what Pete suggests first. Leaking gasket letting it drain down when sitting or bleeding off pressure; or a weak switch.

My Stelvio is dong exactly this, at the moment. Usually when cold, and the bike almost doesn't start, at which point the SERVICE indication is triggered. If I fully charge he battery, it doesn't happen. FWIW, I am also using a Motobatt battery. Might try switching back to the original battery temporarily as a test.
Cheers,
Shaun

Wayne, it is the other way around on the Stelvio (at least the 2012+).
All Instrument panel errors are kept in memory and displayed as MEM on the diagnostic screen. The pressure switch is part of the Instrument Panel Error and registers immediately as a DSB7 or DSB8. I know this for a fact as the error always fires up after each oil change. I let it drain for a long time and each time I first start it up, I get the error and oil can until the oil pressure comes up and goes away after 2 or 3 seconds. It registers in the MEM when it does that.
ECU errors are only displayed in the diagnostics when they are active. There is no memory in the ECU error display on the dash, but they are held in the ECU memory and can be extracted using GuzziDiag or similar products. The Engine Temp sensor is part of the ECU error. Did not show up on mine until I ran the ECU memory through Guzzidiag (or similar).
If there is no Instrument Panel Errors in memory on the dash, highly unlikely it is the pressure sensor, I would look for errors in the ECU memory.
Just my 2 cents. Do with it what you like..............

There may be a problem with the Motobatt batteries. Mine have worked fine. I have just installed a new one that does great.

Ummm - maybe I'm wrong (the heavens quake!), but it seems to me that's not the right volume of oil for the 1200, either 4v or 8v. Most of these bikes seem to need around 3.5 liters or so when the filter is changed (as of course it always should be). 2 plus a dash would be around a liter too little...
This may not be the problem, but could well be a problem.

I mean that MadMike said that he is NOT seeing any stored code, possibly because it is such a short event.
