Title: Marionette TV NGC
Post by: redrider on November 27, 2016, 10:11:05 AM
I found it! From the 1st grade era(1962). Gerry Anderson's Fireball XL5. He also did Captain Scarlett and Thunderbirds. Down the YouTube rabbit hole.

I'm sorry in advance.....

As a child, I hated those shows, can't say I have changed much.

....Mrs. Farr will probably be disappointed in her #2 son.....again.

I put it in the same category as clown shows.  Kind of spooky.

I remember every year of my early Elementary School days a Marionette troupe would put on a live show in the school gymnasium. Remember getting so engrossed that when the show ended I was mildly freaked out by how big real humans had suddenly become. Funny what one remembers from childhood.

I was in the army overseas in those days and so was spared having to watch those shows.
When I got home there was Peabodies improbable history.  I liked that one, and about a years or so later, Star trek  began.  Star Trek was pretty good in spite of Kirks hammy overacting.  I note that now everyone carries a working version of his communicator, and cat scans are not very far from the diagnostic capabilities of those aboard the Enterprise.

Fireball XL5 was my very favorite, I can still here the theme song. And the robot's voice...and Venus!

I remember the pilot episode of Bronson.  I think that is where that particular scene came from.
He had a really amazing sportster.  It could morph into a sprint or even a two stroke dirt bike on a moments notice
for a jump scene, then morph back into a sportster a couple of seconds after it landed simply by panning the camera up to his face and back down to the bike.
I think it was the inspiration for transformers.

No mention of the undersea action/adventure series; "Stingray." How could you forget that sexy Aqua Maria? 😳

Oh, I remember Aqua Marina, but I still think "my Venus of the stars" is better.

I must be mad, I remember the theme to that too, as well as Supercar. At least one baby stroller gave up its wheels for my own Supercar.

They played the full-length film "Thunderbirds are Go!" on one of the oldies TV channels last week. I had to watch. While the shows filmed in world-famous "Super-Marionation!" were fun, my favorite Gerry and Sylvia Anderson show was UFO - dig those crazy anti-static wigs the girls on the space station had to wear, not to mention their jumpsuits!

Space: 1999 was pretty good, but it took itself too seriously - the loss of camp led to a morass of overly-dramatized scenes.
