As you have probably read in another thread Wayne and Vicky Orwig were involved in a incident last weekend. While Wayne has some healing to do Vicky's situation is much more serious and could result in a very long stay in the Gainesville, GA hospital. Bill Hagan, Steve Nicholas, and I were discussing what we could do to help Wayne once he's released since Gainesville is about an hour from his house and he is in no shape to commute. It quickly occurred to us, however, that this weekend is just the beginning of what will be a long and very expensive process and that whatever we do is not going to be enough.
Wayne has asked for our thoughts and prayers and to please keep Vicky on top of the list. Amen. For anyone who wants to provide some financial support Bill, Steve and I wanted to establish a means to do that as well. Below is a link to a Paypal account that I opened specifically for the benefit of Wayne and Vicky. Although it has my name on it once Wayne is able to fill out some paperwork he will be able to use whatever comes in as he needs to help him deal with this situation. We didn't ask for Wayne's permission so much as we just told him that this was going to happen, and I am sure he will be appreciative of any support his Guzzi family can provide. Right now, however, he has other concerns.
Thanks,
Bill, Steve and George

Hi Mark. Yes we looked at gofundme as well as youcaring and those are good options especially in the social media world (i.e. Facebook). The three of us decided to just post this here at Wildguzzi (thanks Luap) for right now, and since most of us Guzzi types have had to live with Paypal to get stuff for our bikes it just seemed like at least a good start.
And as Luap says there's no fee on a debit transaction and the credit card fee is paid for by the friend and not Wayne. Also the bank account we opened is at Ally which was free to open and no fees there either.
So while our approach may not be elegant it certainly was simple and cheap.

George is generous with names of his coconspirators, as if Steve or I really did anything.
The truth is that George did all the heavy lifting.
Thanks, George.
Oh, and yes, I just donated.

AMEN!
Agreeing is easy. George did the work.
looking forward to all of us drinking great bourbon and smoking fine cigars at the next Blue ridge rally.

George, I don't know if it's still the case, but at one point a person could send funds via Paypal and designate them as a "gift" or to "repay", and the receiver would not be charged on their end; not actually charged, but Paypal keeps 3% of each transaction. Do you know if that's still in effect? You'd posted that "the credit card fee is paid for by the friend and not Wayne", are we saying the same thing?
And, would there be any objection to some of us also posting this info on our own Facebook pages? Wayne has his page too for that matter, but I don't know if he would want it there or not; that decision would need to be made by him, you and the others close to him at this point.
-
Hi Steve. The Paypal.me page is designated as "friends and family" and not business. There is no fee on either side of the transaction if you use Paypal funds or a transfer from your banking account. If you use a credit card as the source it will add a 2.9% fee on the sender's side. One friend used an "e check" and I don't know what if any fee was on that (none on the receiving end).
As for links on Facebook and the like I've already seen it out there in a couple of places; we just started small with the marketing.
Thanks again.

No it's Steve, Yaniv, Guzzi Steve, and you next week that are doing the heavy lifting. I just took a couple of hours of my employer's time to set up a channel for those of us who can't be there and want to help somehow.
The real magic is that of Wayne and Vicky anyway. They are the ones that have touched so many lives around the country and around the world. They've ridden hundreds of thousands of miles on their Guzzis and attended hundreds of rallies, meetings and events. Wayne is the one who has crabbed my EV three times and Vicky the one that re-packed the needle bearings in my transmission. What I've done here is really nothing.

Good job Westbury, and good job everyone else!!!!!!!

I'm in. Hope it helps.

For being "cheap" Guzzista, the group is "very" generous. I spammed another Guzzi list, too.
Let's keep those positive vibes for Vicky going, too.
-
I went to see Wayne today in his new rehab room.We went to the gym for physical therapy where they had him working his arms. His sense of humor came through when he said he was doing his beer curls. He was worried about Vicky having not had an update on her condition today.I ran into Guzzi Steve in the parking lot who said the doctor believes Vicky hears what people in the room say and is responding to stimulation. This will be a long road for them and they can use all the help and support we can give them.
-
Sent a donation, hope it helps ease the pain. Good thoughts and prayers to Wayne and Vicky.
Stay strong!

Wayne and Vicky have lots of great friends! There are pending transactions but if my math is correct we've raised $3,677 so far. That goes along with holding a Guzzi rally daily in Wayne's room and all the prayers and love we can send to Vicky.
Thank you all

I know first hand how a perfect day becomes a nightmare. I don't know Wayne or Vicky but would be happy to donate something to help them heal. I don't have a pay pal account and don't want one. Any other way to donate?
-
Heard about this over on Griso Ghetto, chipped in yesterday. I guess it's a good sign that, as somebody mentioned, she is responding to some stimuli - she apparently can hear what's going around her - we're sure hoping for the best for her.

It's sort of lame I know, but most mornings and every evening I check this thread for news of the Orwigs.
That's all I know to do right now.
If any of you closer to the situation can think of anything else to help them out please tell us.

Yep you can do it that way and I'll get it to the Ally Bank account we have for Wayne. Just PM me for my address.
Ally uses something called "Popmoney" and I've got that set up too if you use that. But I'm like Russ and Tony and just wish someone would post some good news about Vicky

Paypal wanted $4.50 fee (i.e. 4.5%) to use my BoA debit card. Is there a bank account number available where I can transfer the donation to? PM me if you want it to be discreet.
-
Thanks Steve, Loong, and all who have contributed. It stinks that when you print a list of all of the contributions from the Paypal account you can't add all of the comments that were sent along with them. Some of them were very special so when I get some time (and some alcohol) I'll type them in so that Wayne can read them. Wayne won't mind my misspellings!
Oh, we just crossed over $5k raised!
Thanks again everyone who contributed and a special thanks to all who have been there the past two weeks.

Yes I will PM you the account and routing number to the account I've got set up at Ally. It's still in my name only right now but I'm going to take the form to Wayne on Monday to have him added.
For those who have sent paper checks that's the same bank account that the checks will be deposited to assuming I can use their "E Check" deposit thingie where you take a picture with your smartphone. Modern technology...
I will be happy to provide the same to others if you just PM me.

Hoping for the best for Wayne and Vicky. Donation sent.

I saw Wayne and Vicky on Monday and I know just how appreciative Wayne is for the support. Communicating is just very low on his priority list right now. He does read these threads so keep up the well wishes.
I can tell you that Wayne is physically healing well. He has no real pain in his leg but is restricted from applying any weight to it until the Doctors say so (about 3-4 more weeks) because of the surgery to his hip. He is respecting that RX with some occasionally interesting engineered methods but the key is he is doing what he is supposed to do. His arm has a nice little scar on it from the surgery, he's got some metal in there, but he has just a soft cast and can do everything with it until the point where it hurts. Otherwise he looks like Wayne. They had all of their gear on and really, after seeing pictures of the bike and the car, I'm really in awe of how well it worked.
I wish I could sit here and type good news about Vicky but I can't. All we can do is continue to put her in our thoughts prayers, put the caregivers in there too, and continue to be there for Wayne as he deals with this terrible situation.
Thanks again to all of the people in the area that have been getting him to and from the hospital and trying to take things off his plate so that he can be with Vicky.
-
Thanks for the update George and thanks for being there for those of us who cannot.

George, Steve, Bill, and others,
Thanks for your help in keeping all of us in the loop and for helping the Orwigs to cope with what they are going through. :thumb:

Vicky was transferred today to a long term care facility off I85 in Atlanta. near Druid hills I think. this will be a farther, harder trip to make for Wayne. his daughter can take him weekends but during the week he will have no way to get there. I leave in the am for 6 days in La. and when I get back I will only be here until just after Christmas. if your in the area he sure could use a ride to and from the facility. there is no way to describe how hard this is on him. they are very close. Unfortunately there has been no change. She is still in a coma and Saturday will be three weeks since the accident. I brought Wayne home after she got transferred. he is supposed to get a walker with special support for his arm. He really needs another lighter weight wheel chair that he can cram into the back of a Mustang or safely hang on a bicycle rack. as it stands he has to go up and or down a full flight of stairs on his butt backwards then somebody has to carry the wheel chair up or down. not easy.
-
I sent a few dollars, and am wishing them all the best!

Sent a little. Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for setting this up George.

It has been a busy month. I wanted to make sure that I thank everyone from around the globe for the support. I'm sure the road ahead is paved with a lot of bills, and this fund will be very helpful. The woman that hit us, had the minimum legal coverage, so that will not help much. My personal medical insurance is covering it, as far is it goes. My employer promised that my job would be waiting for me when I am able to work again.
I hope to be able to thank many of you in person, so I hope to meet many of you at a future rally, so we can talk.
Please continue to keep Vicky in your thoughts and prayers, she still has a long way to go.
Thanks.......

I'm rarely on this site anymore, but due to a little note from Bill Hagan I was thankfully brought into the loop about Wayne & Vickie.
Sadly...I just read about Wayne's, and everyone's loss. As everyone knows, to know Wayne and Vickie has always been a gift and a glimpse into a great relationship. The condolences and kind words you'll see on this board are only a snapshot of the positive impact that both of them have made throughout the Guzzi community.
This is a tough time for Wayne, but I'm also thankful that I can share in the memories which help put a perspective on a life well lived and appreciated.
I just donated, but I would ask others on this board to consider donating in another way too. Add a story about Vickie, or Wayne and Vickie, that would be appreciated.
All the best and prayers to you Wayne - Robert

Ditto. So sad for your lose Wayne.

Thanks Paul.
I'm still in a bit of shock from everything, and still have no clue how much this is going to cost me financially. I know that emotionally this is the worse thing I have ever had happen, and I'm not dealing with it well. I found a bag in the garage yesterday that I opened, only to find what the emergency workers had cut off of her to do their work. I couldn't get it closed fast enough, and now that image is stuck.
I've been showing this photo around lately. This is on top of a North Georgia mountain. Vicky liked riding in the mountains as much as I did, even in the cold weather.
