I'm planning a camping tour through Wales next year on my B11 and have decided I don't want to sit on the ground next to the tent anymore :thumb:
Any recommendations for a small seat that will fit on the bike sensibly please?
Just me so pillion seat is available load space

The Kermit chair . Expensive , well made , great warranty and support . No idea about availability in the UK .

That's really the best answer. Kermit chairs are great.

Kermit is the one chair you will never see in the trash at the end of a rally. On the other hand, I have lost count of the lesser brands that did not make the trip home.

Yup, Kermit!
We got our 2 Kermit chairs before they made them shorter with the optional leg extensions. They are longer packed but sure are comfy and my 2 daughters pitched in and got me the folding Kermit table last Christmas (not this most recent one), so I got to try it this past summer.
-
Just pitch your tent next to a stump.
-
Or take a look at ice fishing chairs, I got one that's perfect for polishing or anything that gets me off my knees. Kermit may be the best though.
-
I usually get a bag chair from walmart. It packs tight and costs very little if I decide to chuck it. And you can keep it as a lawn chair.
-
I have a Kermit chair and I think it's worth the price. I also bought the add-on leg extensions to make the chair easier to get in and out of.

I've been using one of these for years. Super light, folds down to the size of a big burrito. It's very comfy and lets you either lean back or sit upright. Awesome chairs.

Gofastandlight.com has one I use that is several years old. 1lb13oz. I cannot get the picture to load. More of a squat than a chair. Item # TO-R-4545

Just go to Walmart and get you a shorty folding chair for around 10 bucks. Light inexpensive and if it breaks you can get a new one free in any city in America as most every city has one. This is a no brainer fellers:)

REI Flex Lite.
I thought it would be a bit weak, but, I've had all 220lb on one leg when I leaned back wrong. Quite a few times rocked back on the rear two legs.
I figured if I broke it I'd consider a Kermit, but, I just could not justify that much money for a chair.

Kermit chairs are sturdy, and HEAVY. Some of the new aluminum-framed chairs such as the A-lite above are very sturdy as well and small and light when packed. I have both, but the Kermit has been relegated to cottage beach use. The lightweight Helinox has been everywhere with me, including canoe trips in the far North and cross-continent motorcycle trips. Other than the dirt on the feet, it's like new.
Very few Walmarts in a lot of the places I travel. And for that I'm grateful.

I have the Aerostich Roll a Chair. Sturdy, comfortable, and easily strapped to the bike. I'm 6 ft and 200+lbs....no problem.

Timely topic since I looked at a bunch of them at REI the other night. Of the ones there I thought the ALite Mantis was the best. Was looking on them at Amazon however and I think I'm going to go with the type that has the higher back:
https://www.amazon.com/YaeKoo-Portable-Lightweight-Foldable-perfect/dp/B01DK69TGQ/ref=pd_day0_468_14?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6WJ5N3XN67G2X2QZ3TAE
It packs a little bit larger and weighs a lb more but neither are issues for me and my 70L camp bag.
-
Well that seems pretty conclusive
I should have mentioned that I'm in the UK so some of the other opportunities are out for me
Cheers

Agree 100% - that's the best and most versatile one on the market for the money (IMHO)

I have known of a couple of cases where a Kermit chair broke after long years of use . The company really stands behind their products , and took care of the problem no questions asked .

Another vote for KERMIT. It will be the last chair you ever buy.
And DO get the optional "cup" holder. :boozing:

Kermits are nice, but I'm to cheap to buy one. $12 bag chairs usually last me two or three seasons, they fold up easy and transport easy.
-
I got one for Christmas like George found on Amazon. Pretty sturdy and comfortable, and packs in a small size

This is what I use: https://kawarthaoutdoor.com/
It's pricey but watch for sales. Like them on FB and and you might get a notice when the price goes down. Just got a 2nd one for $30.

Bag Chair they are light weight i lay it across my Norge on the passenger seat not much bigger then the tent and the cot i take with me.
And like was said cheap easy to replace been using mine for 4 or 5 or 6 year between camping on the motorcycle and RVing all 4 are still holding up.
I have a buddy that got his kermit chair after a BMW rally in the trash with a leg broke
he took it home did a repair and been using it for years.

I went for a clone of this for £15 in the end
A £110 Kermit might be better, but if some scrote nicks my fifteen pounder I wont get bent out of shape
Cheers

I have two of the original TravelChairs that have held up well for me. I discovered them when I was still doing some backpacking. They are compact and lightweight, but do require some simple assembly. They are somewhat close to the ground too; if you have difficulty getting up from that low. I found them to be better than sitting on logs or the bare ground, but they are not as comfortable as a Kermit or it's ilk. On the other hand, the price is right...

I vouch for mine. Nothing packs smaller. Hard to believe how freaking comfy it is. Tough to get in and out of once you reach a certain age. So that's good exercise. But the best thing about it is that after a couple hours beside the fire drinking tequila and smoking a cigar, someone cracks a dirty joke, you laugh too hard, and you're going right over backwards. Then everyone has a good time.
Real good chair.

A lot of nice things have been said about the Kermit chair over the time I've been a member of this board. I've even watched an video of how to assemble one.
The fact that someone felt that it needed that video was a red flag for me, and the price was an absolute deal buster. In my mind, though I'm assuming really good quality, no folding camp chair is worth that much just on general principles.
I've been at the other end of the scale too. This from a few years ago.
There were various local artists as well of course and in all it was a nice festival. It will be remembered by our little group though as the ‘Year Of The Chair’. I had a 100% casualty rate going (literally) through 3 of them and Jason consumed 50% of his ones. We left a pile of dead Chinese made camp chairs behind us.
Enquiries showed that camp chairs have a weight rating. The very cheap ones tend to be unable to support your average European male and you need to check this before you buy.
I am currently using one of these;

Pros
Comfortable
Stable
Enough height to get up from easily and use at a table
Just a flick to set up
Holds my weight just fine.
Relatively cheap (Not much of a loss if it gets swatted by a marauding bear.)
Cons
Legs can sink into soft ground (true of most)
Packs larger than some (but fits fine on the bike just the same)

 No. There are none in Wales either. Perhaps I should have said Griffins.

My YeaKoo "high back" camp chair arrived and I set it up for a test run. Compared to the "low back" Alite Mantis that I test drove at REI and my previous choice in a $5 chair from Dollar General:
Stowed the YeaKoo is 15"x 5"x 5" vs 12" x 5" x 5" for the Mantis.
The YeaKoo weighs a pound more.
The extra 3" in pack size goes right to the height of the chair when set up. That extra height makes it easier for me to get in and out of the chair.
Because of the angle of the back I don't think the high back is any more or any less comfortable at least for me. Neither chair would be my choice for comfort.
The Dollar General chair is more comfortable than both but weighs more and doesn't stow inside my gear bag.
The YeaKoo is 1/2 the price of the Mantis but 8 times the price of my Dollar General folding camp chair it replaces ($5).
For the budget minded you still can't beat the Dollar General (or Walmart) camp chair. At a usual $5 to $10 and available in most small towns in the South you can trash them after you're done and it will take a few trips before you start losing money. They are more comfortable as well. The Mantis looks like the pick if you are hiking and have a premium on weight and pack size. The YeaKoo is in the middle in both price and performance and I'm going to give it go this year and see how it works out.

Kermit Chair- with the optional leg extensions.
A not-so-good picture of the inventor himself, Kermit. Taken by me at the Georgia Mountain Rally in 2013-

Being a frugal Guzzisti, I would never have bought a Kermit chair, but the Kid gave me one for Christmas a few years ago. I have to say that all the accolades are on the money..and.. it's one of the most comfortable chairs I've sat in. When I get old,  I'll get the leg extensions for it.

My REI camp chair packs nicely on the Norge, but as the years pile up, I'm afraid this is where I'm headed:

One of the dog agility gals brought a rocker chair to a trial. Oh man, very hard to over estimate their utility. Very sweet.
But agility folks don't travel on motorcycles.

Those who know me, know I am built like a tree stump. I have used a borrowed Kermit chair at a rally and had a heck of a time standing up out of it. They sit very low. When I did manage to stand up, I was still wearing the chair on my ass. Had to peel it off. :boozing: That said, the Kermit chair did survive intact. Very well made.
I get the mid grade umbrella chairs at Wal Mart. They often hold up ten years or more for me.
