Post by: Steph on December 29, 2016, 04:51:17 PM
The CB1100 thread had me thinking, why live in the past, I'm up for some new stuff!

Hey, I didn't buy a Breva 11 'cause it reminded me of my Bandit 6 so taste are a personal thing!

Main reason?  A new 2017 Z900 with ABS is about $8800 (MSRP)  :thumb:

A restored 1973 Z1 900 - like the one in this photo - is now about $20,000+

Looking at that kind of reinforces why I have Italian bikes.

I've always enjoyed looking at the bikes Kaw puts on the market.  An adventurous manufacturer willing to take a chance, that has produced many unique products, not the least of which was the 1970's Z1, and the several variations of the H1 2 stroke triples.

Should have kept my Z1. I still think of it as one of the prettiest bikes I ever owned. But part of that was the four independent exhaust pipes, which rusted out quickly.

I have one of the very few ZR1100 Zephyr's in the U.S.  The CB1100 is a close clone of ZR.  And My all original KZ1000 LTD is worth what?  They both make me make me grin when I ride them.  No one gives the ZR a second look and everyone loves the LTD.

Muscle bikes of their time, when Harley's leaked, triumphs had the shakes and I had hair.  Dose were da days boys.   :boozing:

Two of the bikes in my garage right now are about the opposite ends of the extreme, in regards to this topic. One is an older carbed Thruxton, pretty much stock with the factory cowlings. The other is a current generation Street Triple R, also with all the factory cowlings. The Thruxton is to me classic motorcycle design, lots of soft curves, twin shocks, narrow mid-section, of a time when I was first developing a love of riding motorcycles. The Striple is angular and edgy, some say it looks like an insect, and appears to my eye as "purposeful". The sparse body work is there to serve a purpose, with sharp hard lines to throw off the wind. The design is all about handling and speed with the short wheel base, up-side-down forks, mono-shock swing arm and minimalist high tail section.

The Striple will run circles around the Thruxton and do just about everything better. I do enjoy them both, but for different reasons.

I really like the looks of that Kawasaki and would love to spend a day on one over in the Ozarks! Gets my blood pumping just thinking about it!

Because it looks like shite!

Hear!  Hear!

I'll second that!

Origami styling of the modern nakeds leaves me cold.

I like the organic lines of the retros.

Here's your beauty shot of the baby H2R. It beats Aprilia, Ducati and MV Agusta's effort on fun/design factor!

Me not my cup of tea.
Saying its shit, well not to the younger folk out there.
And I'll take your opinion with a smile as we all have one.
As long as they make motorcycles I'm happy.
Buy what you like and be happy

Nice looking 74!!!  :thumb:

While I can fully appreciate the technology / performance of the new models...the classic Z1 and all its derivatives are hard to beat!!
