Yup, but it was the intrinsic cleverness in the humour that was the point. Much better than most of the rubbish on hipster cafe boards.

i = imaginary number (actually the square root of minus 1) = I
Square root of 64 = eight = ate
Sigma (Greek letter) = means to Sum = Some
Pie = 3.1415 etc....

I ate some Pie!  :)
