Hi guys,
You have a great forum and I thoroughly read the other post on small block breathers. I've owned pieces of my v50 III for a while now. I'm building a custom bike with the engine. I know that depending on the condition of my engine internals, it may start to puke around 4k rpm. That's OK though, the bike will be purely off highway, low rpm use. The body is 2.5 inches tall. 2.5 inch diameter.
Do you think my small catch can design will hold most of the vapor oil?

Should be, looks good. I used to use a V65TT collector that fits in the frame triangle by the headstock, plastic and not much bigger than that one you made. Looks good.

Edit: If that is a small breather element I just saw in the sketch.. that will spray a really fine mist all over the engine and transmission.

Looks good, I made mine out of pvc....
ditch the small filter on top and run a hose down to vent out the back or to the ground, even with the little filter it will mist oil all over your upper frame rails, coils, and under the tank.... Don't ask me how I know

I fitted this readily available aluminium one to my V7-II to keep the airbox clean (the outlet from it runs into the airbox).
It's only slightly larger than yours and seems to be working well.

Clancy, may I ask where did you get one? Looks very nice... :thumb: Can this be combined also with gearbox breather somehow?

There are a lot of different sized catch cans on ebay for $20 or less. Some have drains and sight glasses built in.
I made one from a small tomato paste can. I drilled a hole for 1/8 pipe in the bottom at the edge, and another in the top 180* from the first. Then I blew the tomato out like blowing an egg and added fittings. Oil comes in at the bottom and hopefully drains back through the same hole. The top hole vents the system and has a hose on it going behind the wheel, just in case.
The tomato went into soup.

My Monza had a soup can collector on it. Being steel it eventually rusted and leaked.
I made one out of chrome plated brass; from sink drain pipe (GC). :afro: I sweat soldered 4, 1/4" brass barb connectors into it: 2 from the rocker covers, 1 return to sump, 1 atmospheric vent (the vent is positioned high). I capped both ends with brass sheet. The whole deal fits inside the left side cover next to the battery, with one hose down to the left. My thinking was that metal would help with condensing the vapor back to liquid. Even inside the cover, there's enough airflow to cool it. It's been holding up well for 25+ years. :bike-037:
