Hey guys. A while I was talking about buying a Zero DS. The prices were right everything was panning out. Then I moved from Socal to Jacksonville NC. So a second motorcycle isn't in the cards for me yet. Only a 1 car garage here. Anyways, I know I wanted to do some fun light off road riding, fire roads and the like maybe something a little more. I decided to go the electric bicycle route. Bought a Luna Cycles Gravity mountain bike with the BBSHD mid drive electric motor. I'm hoping it scratches that dual sport itch I have. I'm thinking (here's the guzzi content) some creating a bike rack or mount for the Jackal. Has anyone done anything like this. Where you pop the front wheel off of a bike and mount it to the rear rack or whatever. Anyways, that's all that's new for me now. Thanks dudes.

if you tow on the rear wheel, just think of the charging capacity you could put into that battery..

Those bikes were so easy to pop the chain off of, and put back on, that I'm surprised that anyone would tow it with the chain on it. One bounce or one rock knocking it into first gear at speed and blammo! something's likely broke ....

It has a small electric motor rated at 750w hooked up to the bottom bracket of the bicycle. It had a pedal assist sensor and a throttle, so you can just pedal or ride it like a moped. The battery I have coming with it is 52v and about 14amp hours. They say it's good for 20 or so miles on throttle only. Pedaling will get you more, headwinds and hills will get you less. I'm excited for it to come. My commute to work is less than 3 miles, with 35mph max speed, so not enough to get the motorcycle out. This should work. I'm just not riding the Guzzi like I used to, so I want to attach this to the Guzzi on a rack of some kind and get out to further away trails and such.
There are some guys on AdvRider that have done it, just wondering if anyone here has.

There are electric motor add on kits for sale on Amazon, about $80.

Looks like the Luna battery and charger are really top of the line.
I think you can hack the speed limiter and get up to 50mph :evil:
My commute is 8 miles so report back after you get some miles!

:bike-037: so it came in, it's fast. Very fast. I easily do 30 on it. Topped out at 36. It's nice because it is just like riding a bicycle, only faster. I can still get the same workout, just get to my destination faster. Or, I can pedal easier and get there less sweaty. Depends on what you want. I haven't tweaked any settings because I don't necessarily trust it much past 36mph, but for all intents and purposes, this hits the mark perfect. I'll upload some pics later.

Did you all see 60 minutes last week.. electric motors hidden in Tour D'France race bikes. ! Yep if you can't beat them with enhancing drugs use a hidden motor.. it goes all the way back to the 90's and hinted the Armstrong may have been one of the abusers.

I've mounted motorcycles to the backs of cars that way. But because the steering stem is not vertical the bike tends to fold under and to the side when you back the car up, which I think is the only drawback. Since you won't be backing the Jackal up very much or very far, that shouldn't be problem for you. I think it would tow very well behind you.

I'd love to have one of these for commuting to work in nice weather. I'd go in on electric to keep from getting sweaty, and then pedal home for the workout. I might just get one for after my back surgery as part of my rehab workout.

I love it. I'm a cheapie and got the Gravity. They have a deal with KHS and get really good deal from them. Probably at cost. You couldn't buy the bike from bikesdirect.com and the kit from Luna and come up cheaper than what they sell it to you for.
I've got about 40 miles on mine so far. It's awesome. It pulls so damn fast.

Yes, they definitely have some deals. I considered just doing my own e-bike build on an old Specialized FSR that I have. I priced out just the BBSHD drive system, battery, etc, that is not he KHS models they sell, and it totals to $1,428. The SixFifty 2500 is a $2k bike from anywhere else, so, for their asking price for the SixFifty 2500-based E-bike, I'm getting the bike for $1,200.
If I was only going to ride on the road, the Gravity would be fine, but, I think I want to go off-road as well, so, I wanted better suspension. The question (for me) is, do I drop the additional $1,000 for the 7200. It has a much better suspension setup (160mm vs. 120mm travel on the front, likely more on the rear), and a bigger front brake (180mm vs 160mm) as well.

That's a question only you can answer. I figured if the Gravity ever gets to a point where I can start outriding the bike, I can always throw on a different fork, or swap the drive system to another bike. It has done everything I've asked so far. I almost got the KHS, I think the KHS has a smaller battery.

Battery is the same, 13.5Ah or 11.5Ah for $75 less.
Also, the Gravity has the BBS02 mid-drive, with the BBSHD available for $150 more.
The KHS's all have the BBSHD standard. So, that puts the price difference at only $600 for the KHS 2500, making it a no-brainer for me to get the better suspension.
In either case, what you bought makes you happy; that's what counts.
Which mid-drive option did you get (BBS02 or BBSHD)? Are you using it with the stock 750W program? IIRC, the BBS02 can go up to 1,000 watts. The BBSHD can go up to 1500W, or 2500W, with the $250 "Ludicrous" option (a nod to Tesla) available on the 7200 and 7500.

How do you like it?
I'm considering pulling the trigger on a BBSHD and battery setup, as I bought a decent used full suspension Santa Cruz with disc brakes for a very reasonable price to convert, but, just can't quite convince myself to spend the $1,400 on the whole setup to do the conversion.
