I realize that a great deal of the country has had some brutally cold weather and I'm not trying to be cheeky, but down here in South Louisiana the temperatures have been so mild that the mosquitoes have returned. We have had only two nights of freezing temperatures, this year. I have to clean my windshield of bugs every time I ride for crying out loud. Now I don't really care for the cold, but this is sorta screwing up my seasonal paradigm. Daytime temps for the last 4 weeks have been in the high seventies! THE GRASS IS STILL GREEN!

Over here summer seems to have gone completely AWOL! Outside right now it's about 12 C, (53f)overcast with showers and about 25kts (29mph) of wind coming up from the deep and frozen South. It's been pretty much like that all January.
The country got hit by a "weather bomb" a few days back. A very deep low with winds in the 100mph range and lots of heavy rain. It seemed to pretty much miss those of us in the far South and all I noticed down here were the winds being up somewhat. (maybe 50kts(56mph))
The West Coast of the South Island and the central parts of the Country got a bit of a walloping though. News reports of slips, downed treas and power lines, surface flooding and sundry minor damage. Unpleasant, but not up to too much as far as weather bombs go.
But this is summer? A pox on, um ... "an atmosphere with more energy!".

Cloudy but in the low 50's today in south central PA and took the 1200 Sport out for exercise. Great!

57 degrees and NO SNOW LEFT in Buffalo. It's ALL upside down!

I looked at the thermometer Thursday and it said the temperature was 47F. I figured this was my best chance for a ride in January, at least for the foreseeable future since the January high temperature in the town I live in has only been above 50F two days in recorded history.
I pulled off the charger and tossed on the seat. She fired up. The most treacherous part of the ride was my driveway. It's got a eight foot ice sheet at the bottom, so it was baby steps. I stopped at the gas station to check the tire pressure and hit the freeway, which I thought was less likely to have snow or ice on it than the highway. It was clear from one side to the other.
It was a bit chilly, but the Nevada does much better job of re-directing the wind than my old bike, the TU250x. I'm not sure if it's the screen, the cylinders sticking out or something else, but I'll take. I just rode up to the next exit on the freeway, which is 14 miles. I had a few double takes along the way. Now, though I live in a small town in northern MN, I can say I've taken at least a 25 mile ride every month, including January.

Winter is going easy on us so far. I can tell because the pile of remaining firewood is bigger than average for late January. Also I've been able to ride when it's in the mid 60s once or twice a week.

Almost 70 yesterday (Saturday) and sunny...so off on my V11 for a nice 50 mile ride. Later took my FJR out. Almost a 100 miles riding between both bikes. Wow I'm liking this winter.

grass in yard and pasture is turning green
redbuds blooming
round three of tornado warning is on the way this weekend (been getting OT for cutting trees off R/W )
t-shirt weather
ticks out
chickens laying eggs
but just last week it was in the teens here and it ain't over yet I'd venture to say
Welcome to Georgia in the "winter". To paraphrase Mr. Gump - winter in the South is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're getting
-
You're welcome. We have taken all of your cold, rain and snow so you could enjoy a nice mild winter. We have had record snowfall and below average temps this winter.
Yesterday it got close to 40 so I opened up the garage and connected the trickle charger to the 1200S. I got the cabin fever so bad I rode my trials bike around the driveway and have been looking at other places to live. So enjoy the nice weather and keep posting pics to help us, who are taking the winter for you, survive.
