Title: What happens if...
Post by: Huzo on January 29, 2017, 08:58:48 AM
Is there a simple answer to the questions...."What happens if donations do not cover the cost of maintaining the forum"  and  "Have costs always been met by donations alone and if not, where did the rest come from?"

My guess is that Luap takes up the slack.  He said he spent 200 hrs./yr. maintaining this site.  What's that worth alone?

Thanks Luap!

Looks like we are a long way from target for 2017 donations (see "Donation Status" on the main page).  Let's see if we can get that taken care of sooner rather than later -- WG is such a valuable resource!!

Cheers,
Shaun

So far, donations have always covered the costs.  There are some non server related costs (outside of donations) that I typically cover if the left overs from donations is not there.  Not a big deal, but usually between $300-$400 per year.

I think I stated accepting donations in 2009 or 2010 when server costs got too much for my personal checkbook to handle.

Yes, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour per day running checks, optimizing, etc. If I were an attorney billing a client 200 hours per year, I could probably only do that for a source of income and have A LOT of riding time :thumb:

My pleasure.

Okaaayyy... That's pretty enlightening. Let me add my thanks also to you Luap. If you decide for whatever reason to give over hours for our benefit that's your business our good fortune and we're the better for it. But you should NOT have to chip in your own money. I didn't even remember to donate until I read something on the forum. I really do feel that you should let the forum know at the very least if you are going to need to put your hand in your pocket for your own money, and I for one would be happy to chip in something along with the rest of the members to fund some sort of a week away on the bike for you or something similar as a gesture of thanks. When you have a massive steak and a few beers, enjoy them, you've paid somewhere along the line. Please don't "pull" the thread Dusty. You didn't ask for this Luap, so please don't feel awkward, YOU BLOODY WELL DESERVE IT !!! Does anyone out there think otherwise ???!                       PS. I'll come up with ten bucks towards a gift of thanks if it can be set up in a seperate pot. Anyone else ??? Or are we happy the way it is ? If Luap doesn't take up the offer, it can always sit in the "bank".
