I used to either go fishing or go for a mc ride. It was always possible in Phoenix. Later, I would watch the game.
In 2012, SBS was also a going away party for me with my family as I was leaving for Germany a week later. It was the last time I saw both of my parents together.
The game shows here starting at 10:00pm. I'll watch it but I'll sure be tired at work on Monday 😊
-
I don't bowl, so I'm not sure when it is.
-
What's a Super Bowl? Is that like a bottomless bowl of steel cut oats at the local diner?
Steve.
-
Perfect time for a nap.

One of the few times I go to see a movie. Don't have to fight any crowds anywhere. Otherwise watch something on TV that actually interests me. Sorry, as you might tell I am not a sports person.

Will most likely make it to half time unless the game is really good. I get up at 4 AM on Mondays to get ready for work.
-
Thirty years ago, we used to get together to watch the Super Bowl on what passed for someone's Big Screen TV; we'd fix snacks, visit, maybe watch the game.
Then several things gradually happened:
1) The game got slower and slower as the referees pondered every play on "review".
2) The focus changed from "The Game" to the halftime show and commercials, which the group I was watching with started to talk about and drool over, and which are just bottomlessly stupid to me.
3) I generally lost interest in "professional" sports.
Today, even under torture, I couldn't tell you who's playing in the Super Bowl or when it is, because I just don't read things that might indicate that, and have no TV pickup. It's a happier place for me.

Puppy bowl!

I ceased interest in football, and sports in general, over 20 years ago, and was surprised to discover that weekends are 2 days long. Pro sports, what a waste of my time. It has NOTHING to do with sportsmanship anymore, only money. Millionaire athletes, and billionaire owners, broadcasting networks, and advertisers, working hard to separate me from my hard earned cash. Screw that, I ride my motorcycle on weekends.
Steve.
-
Who is playing? I don't even know that!
I will probably go to church, eat, and take a nap...

Quote / Title: "What Do You Do on Super Bowl Sunday?"
Errr...watch the Super Bowl?     :thumb:
We gave up watching commercial TV last April...so we will have to go somewhere to watch it...
-
Shoot some skeet. Then fall asleep during the super bowl while watching something else
-
This year we'll record it and see it on Wednesday night, fast-forwarding thru the game delays. On Sunday evening we'll be ripping up carpet in the Paonia house preparatory to sanding the hardwood floors.
The old carpet will go to the barn and face a future of dripped oil and paint overspray.
-
I understand the cynicism towards pro sports, and the spectacle of the Superbowl is the epitome of that.
But I will say this. This Sundays game includes a very rare event. The opportunity to see a certain first ballot Hall of Famer, playing for a record no one ever thought possible, and unlike last years Superbowl, this player isn't hobbling through hoping to contribute, he's playing the best he ever has.
I know there is skepticism of him, justifying his success etc, but to a man, even other Hall of Famers, simply shake their heads and marvel at his ability and state unequivocally that he's the hardest working player they've ever seen, from Sunday to Sunday. Preparing. Leading.
Could prove to be one of those sports moments of a lifetime that transcends the game. Or not. May be a chance worth taking. I'll be watching.
-
Usually watch the game especially when the Patriots are in the running. Not much of a football fan but I get caught up in the hype.
This year I will be finishing the Maple syrup evaporator stove that I am building for Sue Ellen.

I'll be watching the tape I made of Saturdays Supercross

Wow, that's super cool. I didn't know you could run a stove on maple syrup.

Not going to watch it since I don't follow any type of sports

Next season's stupidbowl will be here in Mpls. at our new billion dollar, tax payer (and fan) funded Humptydome replacement. (Don't get me started on how team owners rigged that system for themselves.) Since that stadium was under construction and the SB was announced, Mpls. has decided that their sh*tty downtown streets and infrastructure are an embarrassment and have to be rehabbed before the game. They haven't put squat into infrastructure in decades, just drive around the rest of the city to see for yourself. Now they spend all this money on downtown for out of towners and tv networks to be here for a week.
If I could I'd leave this area and all the big city and pro sports shinanigans that go along with it.
Steve.

When we lived just outside of DC, my wife and I would go out to dinner at a restaurant that was usually crowded, and that didn't have any TVs. It was great to be able to walk in, get a good table and attentive service on a weekend evening.
Now that we live out in the middle of nowhere, the nearby town doesn't have a restaurant without TVs, as far as I know, so Super Bowl Sunday is just a day like any other.
-
I'll watch something important like rediculousness until it's over. Then I will be able to find the Super Bowl commercials on the internet without them being interrupted by a bunch of millionaires chasing a silly ball that isn't even round.
-
Interesting group we have here. Almost all of us (me included), have no interest in the Super Bowl. Millions (probably hundreds of millions world wide) will watch it, so we may well be exceptions - imagine that!

Going to head down to a spot on the Potomac River and hunt sharks teeth with the Grand-Daughter. I have absolutely no interest in this game and even less in the halftime entertainment...... ...
-
What is this bowl, and what makes it super?
-
yes, I'll watch. I haven't missed one yet, although I've turned many off before the game was over.
I'd tell you which team I was rooting for but we were all warned about politics here.

The Stupid Brawl-We used to play the neighborhood kids in a football game before it started and by the time it was on we were tired and trashed- didn't pay attention to the game itself. Now, I'll work on bikes and see if we can go out somewhere for dinner-w/o TV's.
Anything but football.

That's a valid view. Let me put it to you in a different way.
If you had a multibillion dollar business, employing thousands of people and generating 13 billion annually, and made, lets say....cars. And you could buy a machine that would increase revenue and insure that your company would be number one in its market for the operational life of the machine, say 15 years, what would that machine cost? answer: tens of millions That ratio would be RIDICULOUSLY favorable for any business, ensuring thousands of jobs and food and shelter for thousands of people for a decade and a half....no community would shun that opportunity.
The players are the machines. short life span. disproportionate ROI. As a business model - taking away the names and the 10 pound gold chains... it's not about them. The cities do this because is reaps outrageous revenue benefits. Now, if you want to blame someone for the limited "ripple" effect, I won't stop you. In Jacksonville, they have an owner who is pouring money back into the city, and they absolutely worship the guy. Reinsdorf in Chicago is another who maintains a pretty positive civic reputation. What are the Packers worth to Wisconsin's economy? I think it's a little more complex than we give it credit for.
The Sports franchises CAN have tremendous positive impact while being profitable and employing thousands.

The only sport I watch is Boxing. I have never seen a football player the picked up gloves not get is ass kicked.
As far as pouring money back into the community let them build there own stadiums. Would anyone use taxpayer money to build a factory and keep it open 7 days a year?

Anything but watch football.

I have zero interest in football, or any other sport other than motorcycle racing. Sunday should be a great day to take a ride on my trike with my wife, in the Tucson area.
The roads are usually empty on SBS, and that just fine with me.
I also was surprised at how many Guzzisti here have no interest in the superbowl !
Some of my friends think its almost "Un American"
Rick

:bike-037:ride my old honda. im not into most sports.

After 30 people have come out and implied that you'd have to be some sort of sad loser to spend time watching the Super Bowl, we probably won't have anyone now that will claim to watch it ... !!

I've tried, Lannis. A couple times many years ago, I was convinced that the party would be tons of fun. "Come on over, we'll have plenty of food and beer, and it'll be a great time, even if you're not a football fan." The problem was that no decent conversations ever got going, because everyone kept getting distracted by the tube.

And it's worse .... Even if you wanted to watch football, you can't, because people are talking and hoo-hawing all through the football part of it.
THEN at halftime, they're all glued to the tube making sure they've seen the Commercials so they can be authorities at the water cooler the next day, and watch some superannuated rock star who had had his day in the 60s strut around lip-synching some old song to fireworks and the Solid Gold Dancers ....

sharpen my pocket knife, and cut up limes for game time margaritas.

Since I am presently without a motorcycle and hail from Massachusetts (origionally) I will watch the game. jHope the Pats win. I sometimes watch hockey, usually football because they half halftime where I can leave, run an errand, and come back.
Used to prefer soccer but professionals throwing themselves on the ground seeking fouls no longer seems sensible.
Football is getting a bit weird so I may fade more time to do other things. Seeing men dance etc after doing their job correctly.
Baseball puts me to sleep (all too easy a thing these days) and Basketball no longer interests me. Kinda lost interest after Bill Russell retired.

Work.

Interesting answers but not totally unexpected. I figure that I (we) are in a very small minority of folks in our general age group that really don't care about watching the Super Bowl. I personally have never watched one, and I could count on one hand the number of professional sporting events I've suffered through. Occasionally, I'll watch part of a game with a son who is into it and here at our house, but I'll be happy to go outside and participate in many sports, although I think full contact, equipmentless football is probably out for me as is long distance running and quite a few more.
But the question is what will we do. I am planning on helping with a controlled burn tomorrow, and, if the weather is right, I might do that again Sunday. I have been invited to bird hunt with our youngest son and bring along my GSP who hasn't had many opportunities to find birds. I have to change the oil in my wife's truck for a possible trip to Arkansas within the next two weeks. I want to mow out some strips for hunting in our sorghum fields that weren't harvested. I have to check on my hog bait spots in preparation for next weekend's hunt. I still need to fix the gas leak on the EV. I have a good bit of storm damage debris to pile up and burn. Then there's building the sandbox for the grandchildren, filling stump holes in the pasture, shooting the wife's new .380 and making sure she is checked out on it.
These are things I have planned for weekends, but I never get caught up and add more all the time.
One thing is certain, if it's raining and I'm inside, I sure won't be watching the ball game
-
no offense to folks in colder climates but . . . empty roads? . . duh . . . ride!

I have friends in Chicago who have a big shindig every year. Being Bears fans they don't have to worry about needing to watch the actual game, since they have no stake in the outcome. I'm distracted by all the hype the ads and the halftime, no use for it at all. But as stated here, that's fodder for the party in their case. The game itself is just something to look at during breaks in socializing.
I AM interested in the game, and what i do nowadays is I start the game, and hit pause for fifteen minutes, then sit down and watch, fast forwarding through the ads. At halftime I hit pause again and do something else, make food or what ever, then do the same for the second half. The upshot of this is I finish the game at the same time as the rest of the world, only seeing THE GAME, without the blather of the ads and the halftime massacre. I can then have my post game phone calls with friends or family who cared. Sports have changed, for sure, but I still appreciate the competition, and the fact that it's spontaneous, the outcome is never assured, and occasionally, something remarkable happens.
And, I happen to be Patriots fan. Only football team I've ever rooted for. Tomorrow is a big day.
-
Like the Kid , I will probably watch the game . Yeah , we are a bunch of rugged individualists here , and would never admit to watching something that about 1/2 of the population in 'Murica will watch . Kind of like people that talk about how they never ever watch TV or popular movies , and yet can quote dialogue from both
Dusty

Yea, I know a guy that says he never watches TV but can quote from every episode of South Park and most British sitcoms on public TV.
We're planning a nice dinner, maybe shrimp and grits but we won't watch the game. Maybe half time to see Tony Bennett and Gag-a

When I was younger I watched the Superbowl and it was usually a let down. Now older I might check it for a few minutes to see if it's worth watching the 2nd half if there is some real competition. Don't really care who wins but since the Pats are favored if the other team wins that would be  :boozing:
Looking forward to watching the Phoenix Open golf before the SB, that's where my real interest is since I watch a lot of pro golf nowadays. :azn:
Before I think about riding again I need to do some maintenance first and am waiting for the weather to warm up like it is now. If Feb. stays warmer like it is I will be turning to on my bike/scooter rigs to get them all operational again. :bike-037:

I've a couple of racks of St Louis cut ribs that will go in the smoker tomorrow. :food:
Prolly have some beer and cigars too, maybe scotch.
And some time before I pop a top, I'll do some riding tomorrow if the weather clears. :bike-037:

I am going to set up the carbs and timing on my Laverda, then fiddle with a few small jobs on my 750S.
Football?? never watch it, or any other sport for that matter except the occassional motorcycle race or the very odd hockey game.
I just don't get the 'fan' thing, its like bragging about your brothers car, what's it got to do with you :thewife: :thewife:

I'll do some chores around the house. Maybe go to the Y. We might go out to eat that night. My wife said something about wanting to see some commercials on tv...
-
This morning at 8am, it was sunny and dry. No ice on the street and i decided to ride to the Guzzi breakfast.
At 9:00 clouds were rolling in and the temperature was dropping. At 10:00 I decided to take the car 😅.
The game comes on at 11pm. I'll watch it whilst reclining on the sofa. I'll be rooting for the NFC and an exciting game.
-
This game doesn't seem to interest me...maybe it's the teams? Not sure...In the past I've realized it's sad when you are looking forward to the commercials and they let you down too lol.
Luckily I will be in a recording session with a stand up bass player and a mandolin player working on documentary background music.

looks like im going to try to fix my jeep. then gas up my bike after that who knows. was going to ride. proably not too day.

Neither Cookie nor I have ever been sports fans, so we will probably watch a movie here at home It is 40° and rainy in the Seattle area. I might ride out for a Sunday paper.
Oh, it is our 17th wedding anniversary so, at some point today, I might get lucky!

<sigh> And I used to like you, Kip..  and you live in Indiana, too.. <shaking head>
Actually, I spent the last two days prepping and smoking pastrami for Rubens. Dorcia's sister and Harley Bob are coming over for our Christmas gift exchange. (!) We.. and especially they travel a lot. It's the first time we've both been home since December.
Yeah, we'll watch even though the Colts aren't playing, and won't be until they get this coaching problem sorted out..

Harley Bob?
I thought Dorcia's sister was married to Cessna Bob

went out with a couple of our oldest friends at Buca di Beppo a fabulous Italian family style restaurant, with no TV's.. holy cow, this place usually has a line out the door and tonight the parking lot was nearly empty. there were several birthday party's and the staff was singing to them..but quite a few empty tables.. I'll bet this is there worst night of the year..
Apple Gorgonzola Salad
Shrimp Fra Diavolo Garlic shrimp and crushed red pepper with penne in spicy rosa sauce.
Penne al Forno Saut'ed spicy Italian sausage, prosciutto and pepperoni tossed with ricotta and our homemade marinara sauce, topped with provolone, mozzarella and Parmesan.
7 drinks.. wine was 10./glass
$178..
came home to watch the recorded SB commercials and half time..
-
For me, the game started at 00:30am.
At 03:00am when Atlanta went up 28-3, I went to bed. What a surprise this morning!
-
Poor Falcons, they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. It was as if the half times were switched. The Falcons killed it in the first, but just got no where in the second. The Patriots owned the second. Oh well, baseball is right around the corner and I'm eager to see how the Cubs are going to do this year.
-
At least it was not a boring game! After the first quarter, thought for sure the Patriots were finished...obviousl y not!!
With no commercial TV anymore, we went to the Full Moon Saloon to watch the game. Cool '73 Chevy Malibu in the parking lot.
-
The old saying is you have to beat the Patriots because they'll never beat themselves. The Falcons beat themselves. After going so far ahead in the first half, they came out in the second half and played zone, quit getting pressure on Brady, who looked very ordinary when under pressure.. and let him stand back there and pick them apart with dinks and dunks.
Even at that, the Falcons had the game in the bag after that circus catch by Julio Jones. Ball on the 20 and 3 minutes or so to go. All you have to do is run the ball 3 times, take considerable time off the clock, make the Pats use all their time outs, kick the chip shot field goal and give them ball needing 2 scores and no time or time outs. <shrug>
Whatever you do..**don't take a sack.** What did the Falcons do? Threw the ball, took a sack, got out of even long field goal range and... game over.
The Falcons beat themselves, just as the Seahawks did last year. I think coaches let Belicheck get in their heads and quit doing what they do best when the chips are down.

I got paid holiday pay to show up at work because a middle aged man with a wife, kids, and plenty of responsibilities decided to call in sick. A grown man inconvenienced about 100 people for a god damn entertainment program on television.
:thewife:
-
Entertaining game, like everyone else I thought it was over based on the first half but when they got MO, I kind of knew it was over as they are too good a team with smart leadership.
Congrats to Pats fans.
-
Skipped the 1st half as usual and was skipping the 2nd 1/2 `till my wife said the Pats were closing the gap. So I started watching about the 4th quarter and some of the Falcon players started getting penalties for making bad choices. And like the Phoenix Open golf tournament I watched earlier, the game went into overtime. So I watched 2 good sports programs yesterday. :thumb:

What's a Super Bowl? Is that like a bottomless bowl of steel cut oats at the local diner?
Steve.
Actually did make steel cut oats for the first time in a couple of years on Super Bowl Sunday. The new Publix sells the good Irish stuff. No TV so that and getting our new dog were the highlights. Woke up this morning very surprised at the outcome - last checked in with the score 28-9.
-
Well , there is this . Apparently Eugenie Bouchard accepted a bet from a Pats fan sometime during the 3rd quarter when it looked bad for the Pats . Now Canada's sweetheart has to go on a date with the guy . Damn damn damn , lucky dude indeed . Who knew she was even aware of the stuporbowl

Superbowl Sunday was Monday the 6th here. Waitangi Day (our equivalent to July 4th) and we have a day off.
The game was aired here but I didn't watch it and I don't know if many did. I think most NZers can not understand why anyone would invent such a game when they could be playing Rugby.
Anyway, I usually chose to have a birthday on Feb6th. Quiet one this year.

Happy Birthday, John.

open a new thread and tell that story.. with pics.

I pulled uptake complete lady Ga Ga halftime show on the net. She put on what had to be the most extravagant
half time show ever seen! I will spend some time this week finding the commercials. From the clips I saw, if you watched the last quarter, you saw everything relevant to the game.

Happy Birthday, John.
Thanks Chuck. :azn:

So are birthdays optional in Kiwiland ?

I watched this super bowl and every previous super bowl for the past 25 years. I also watched every Steeler game this past season and every previous season for the past 10 years. It's great to go to the cigar bar and put back a few while puffing on your favorite stogie watching a sporting event. I'll also try to get to 4-5 Pirate games (that's professional baseball) yearly. Living in a major metropolitan city, sports is a big deal for many residents. Are the dollar amounts associated with professional sports obscene?..absolutely. Just as for any player/owner/producer in the entertainment game. Movies, sports, nascar, television, what have you (maybe not nascar as I don't follow it). That's what makes the true Guzzi community so lovable. They'll certainly march to their own drummer. I love the super bowl time because emotionally I know that the riding season is not too far away!

Likewise, I've watched every Colts game since they came to Indy. I've always admired people that are good at what they do, no matter what it is. When the Colts came to Indy, I thought, even the worst player in the NFL is one hell of an athlete. It was true. We did have some of the worst then. ' Before that, I had paid no attention to the NFL. Indy was basketball country.
Football was slow to catch on here. I went to training camp (in my home town) when there would be maybe 50 people there. Naturally, I met some of the player's parents. I used to ride my Ducati Darmah, and Marshall Faulk fell in love with it. (Italian motorcycle content).
He bought the first 916 sold in Indiana because of that, I assume.
We had season tickets during most of the Peyton Manning era.
Expensive?? The first ones we bought were 15 bux. When I gave up our tickets to a friend when Peyton left, they had risen to $45. Still cheap for a the good times we had.. both tailgating and games. Made some lifetime friends..

I don't keep up with football all season, but I do watch the superb owl.

Well, blood pressure skyrocketing during 1st quarter. Head spinning second. Started chocking myself beginning of the third, it seemed appropriate given my Pats' performance. And then, and then, wow.!
It is amazing how many incredible plays the receivers made on both teams. I was sure they had gone to the comeback well once too often. Maybe that's why they are millionaires and I can't even afford a small block.

I shot quite a few arrows with my 1968 Hoyt recurve bow at a plastic pole 140 metres away in a field with friends doing the same. It was fun.

Sorry Nic, I don't doubt there's a subtle message in there but I just don't get it. Is the suggestion that I meant to say Austria ? Now of course a "Super Bowl" of steel cut oats, might fire the imagination... (if I knew what they were !)

Just a bad joke, hence the wink. On the confusion some have between Austria and Australia. One thing is for sure, if you have to explain a joke, it's not funny! My cousin in Melbourne wants us over there to visit soon - never been.

The "Austria/Australia" kangaroos-in-Salzburg thing doesn't get old because SO many people actually don't know the difference so they make it fresh every week!
Swedish/Swiss is another one I hear all the time, along with Iowa/Ohio. We took my friends' inlaws to a Lebanese restaurant the other day, and it turned out that their nervous glances were a result of looking for crew-cut women in overalls ....

I note that my last weather forecast didn't include 113 degF with 50 MPH winds, and the word "catastrophic" used about 6 times ... !!!
