I saw in Ebay a very well appointed 2013 V7 with velorex side hack. It looks super nice from the pics and only has @ 400 miles. Lots of $ spent on farkles. Asking $11495 which seems reasonable. I'd add the link here but don't know how. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this bike.

Not sure I like the idea of having a plastic fuel can mounted on the side of the chair......

Nice looking rig but over priced by a 1/3rd. I'd also loose most of the auxiliary luggage or at least scale it back dramatically. There is a ton of storage behind the seat of the hack. No need punishing the small block loading with and additional 150 liters of stuff.

Those expensive gas cans were unnecessary. I had a Velorex on a CX100, Convert. Used a 5 gal. plastic can in the car for ballast when no passenger. When the wife & I travelled had a 2.5 gal gas can + all our gear in saddlebags, top case, tank bag. Of course both those bikes had more hp. than this V7.

I would think a Sporty would make a MUCH better tug - a lot more torque (especially the 1200), crap ton of parts/accessories available everywhere etc.
But the V7 rig was neat.

I like it. Price doesn't seem all that high when you start pricing out duplicating it. I know I have that much in my tug alone. Of course, I've been known to spend my money in frivolous and poorly thought out ways

If you believe that you might as well say the same about a Tonti Cali. My Jackal and my Sporty XLr were very similar in capability, the XLr just having more power.

My experience was with an old big block Harley of some type, Kev. They all look the same to me. :evil: :smiley: A friend asked me to help him put a tug on it because the doc said to quit riding because of a hip replacement.
I rode it and it embodied about everything I don't like about Harleys. After being made into a tug, it was actually pleasant. Tons of bottom end, and as far as I'm concerned, handled *better.*
A stock California against the hawg as a road bike? Nolo contendere.

There's the rub. If you were building this bike to your spec it would cost you tons of money. But since this is built and for private sale the owner is going to take a huge hit on his investment. Three weeks ago a very nice GS rig w/ a custom Claude Stanley rig was up f/s. It cost about $35,000 to build and was sold for well under $well under $20,000. My DR650 rig has well over $10,000 into it and it might bring $6,000. Its just the way it is. You do not recoup your initial investment and if you can find a rig already built and to your liking you'll always save thousands over getting something built.

I hacked a 865 Bonnie several years ago. For as much work as it was I'd be charging a "high" price, too.
One thing about a hack with the stock Triple Tree is that the effort to keep it true will be more that you may expect if it's anything like my Bonnie.
The Leading Link front end was developed for that reason. That said it sure looks like a very well done build.
Is it worth it? If you want a hack it very well may be.
If you've never driven one PLEASE get real familiar with right turns in a big parking lot. You can kill yourself in a panic if you don't know what to do. I'm not being funny here.

It was set up completely wrong and drove like crap, I had to sort it out. It's a 2005 883 sportster with a 1960's Bingham sidecar. The sidecar is small but perfect for the bike.
It's great fun for both me and my dog, everyone likes it :)

If I were going to do it again I would buy a used sportster and find a sidecar for it. I'm confident I could get a similar outfit for under $5000

That V7 racer with side car may look nice, but with clip-ons for handlebars it would be HELL to operate !! :rolleyes: On a hack you need real leverage (upper body strength) in all conditions. :wink:

In this thread of last year the topic of sidecars on modern V7 bikes came up, and I had found out MG does not want sidecars attached to these bikes, the frames aren't made for it with the tube joints on the down tubes below the headtube. If those tubes were single tubes rather than bolt together lap joints at their midspan, installing a car would probably be fine. I would LOVE a tub on my V7II, but I'm not willing to cause frame problems, or perform shadetree engineering in hopes of making it possible.

I don't think any manufacturer wants you to put a hack on their motorcycle. If you have the hack matched to the bike and installed properly with a sub frame to spread out the load along with carefully placed struts and brackets, you'll have no problem. If you buy a $250 "universal" install kit and try to make it work that's where you'll run into problems.

...to adjust the chain, no doubt...he just didn't bother to remove it...and liked the extra weight under the bike...

When the 750 Brevas were new MG said the same thing but I saw a Breva w/a sidecar in Los Angeles. :huh:

I do not think the stock gearing would work well. If it is geared too high, you will be slipping the clutch alot just to get going.
