Hello Folks, one of the original Koni shocks on my 85 Lemans, has started seeping a bit from the shaft seal. Are replacement seals available in the USA? Ive read a couple of articles on rebuilding these units and I think its something I can handle. If I could find seals for a reasonable price in the USA, I think I would give it a shot,if the seals are about 50 bucks or less, otherwise, I think my best choice would be a pair of Hagons, although I just noticed MG cycle carries Ikon shocks to fit that bike for about $200.
What are the groups thoughts?

If you have the re-buildable Koni's, MG Cycle has the kit. It's about
$50 $60.
Anyone know where the kit is cheaper?? I'll be in the need of one shortly.

1. As a bike approaching classic status, consider "a bike is only original once." Replacing shocks could have considerable impact on resale value at some point.
2. Having said that, Hagon makes good shocks in many configurations, including some very similar looking to Konis. Don't know if they have any to fit your bike, but a visit to their web site should answer that.
3. My understanding is that Ikons are essentially Konis by a different manufacturer but some say the quality isn't quite as high. Don't know from personal experience.

I've rebuilt them before using parts directly from Ikon in Australia. Best prices anywhere (including shipping) and they arrived very quickly.

you might want to check availability of parts , as far as i know rebuild kits are only available for the later dial-a-ride koni's
the koni's are a 50 year old design , so only a good idea if you want originality.
if your bike is a rider , by now better options are available.

Ikon is the successor to Koni, just move the "I" :grin:. Ikon sells the parts for the Koni's. The new Ikons are very nice and I have a couple of bikes with them, a 1970 Ambo and a 1977 XS650, both are now a dream to ride.

Thanks alot, Guys for the info. I had no idea MG cycle sold a rebuild kit. The kit from "Benchmarkworks" is alot cheaper at $20. for both shocks, Thanks for that link and info! I think I will give them a try.

They were at the International Motorcycle Show in Cleveland last month. I had a discussion regarding the Koni's on my '87 LMIV, they've got parts & service.

ikon only sells the parts for the dail-a-ride koni's , the earlier shocks have different seals

Not too long ago, there was a fellow in California who serviced and sold parts for them, name of Robert Haag.
