So when you drop the bike it will bust off there and still leave you enough lever to ride home.

Right, but what is accomplished with that? Or it saves your fingers by bending somehow?

No, by then you have let go of the bars and have splayed your ( Gloved) hands, so when the lever contacts the tarmac, it will break at the pre-determined Snap-Point giving you a lever to ride home on. As has been previously mentioned :cheesy: :cheesy:

It works.
Went down in oil and slid a long way. Not the easiest but we made it back.

Worked for me, twice. Both times, I managed to ride with the stub until I got a replacement lever.
It's interesting that there's no corresponding notch in the front brake lever. I believe that the clutch lever/assembly is made by Domino/Tommaselli whereas the brake lever/assembly is made by Brembo. Annoyingly for those who notice such things, the angle between the lever and the mirror mount hole is different for the two lever assemblies, i.e., if you adjust the assemblies so that the mirror mount holes both point directly upward, the clutch and brake levers will have somewhat different angles relative to horizontal.
BTW, I have a spare brand new clutch lever (unpainted cast metal, for those models that don't use the black lever), MG part 32605511, complete with black plastic bushing, in the original unopened plastic bag, that I bought as a spare for my '13 Stone, which I have since sold. I paid $29.87 for the lever, and I'll sell it for $22 including shipping, to anyone who's interested. Apologies for the spam.

Neither one is really for "safety". They are to prevent complete lever breakage so you could ride home. The swing away levers are a better idea, the cut ones are the cheap way to do it. You can always cut a notch in your levers if they don`t have one.

Perhaps there's a good reason why the brake lever doesn't have a notch. If, in a panic stop, you squeeze the bejeezus on the brake lever, if it had a notch, it could snap and leave you, temporarily, without a front brake, until you grabbed the stub. No such problem for the clutch lever, you can squeeze it all you want and it'll only go as far as the hand grip.

Yep, dropped mine (stationary) in Germany and didn't replace it until Agostini's in Mandello. Actually with my clutch hand in the normal position, the break off point was JUST outside my fingers, almost got used to it that way.

And I always thought they are designed with safety in mind. Because if the brake lever wouldn't move away or break then front wheel would stay locked which could lead to flip over. At least that's how local people were interpreting it.

It is probably done deliberately so that mandello could analyze the response on this forum to see if we really notice such things.

Brake levers also come with the notch. Guzzi doesn't order them, for some reason.

My V7S has no notch on either lever. My R1200R has a notch on both. I don't lose sleep over it.
