Title: 2016 Moto Guzzi sales are up 13%
Post by: Nick on March 05, 2017, 07:16:46 AM
"Il Giorno" is reporting that Moto Guzzi's 2016 worldwide sales are up 13% from the prior year (to more than 9,000 units).
They seem to think that the new V9s and MGX-21 played a major part in it.
Piaggio reported selling 344,000 two wheel vehicles, a 6.7% increase over the previous year.

If you like to read it in Italian, here is the ref. link http://www.ilgiorno.it/lecco/economia/mandello-moto-guzzi-1.2932251

Firefox has added an app to use Google translation feature that you can add to your toolbar. It gives you exactly what Jim has linked to. But if you want the app you can add it to your toolbar and it is sitting there to use for any occasion.
My wife was looking at patterns and instructions for a dress from a Slavic county. It open the page from Polish to English with a near perfect translation.  You open a page in most any language and click on the app icon and it will detect the language and translate the whole page for you.

"Soaring sales for the Moto Guzzi, the V9 drag the world market
Increase of 13% in one year for the historic brand of Mandello"

Mandello del Lario, March 1, 2017 - Soaring sales for Moto Guzzi. In 2016 the two lecchesi wheels have recorded an increase of 13% compared to almost 8 thousand sold in 2015, surpassing 9 thousand share. The historic brand, acquired by Piaggio group, like more and more to the centaurs around the world. "It's also about the new V9 Roamer and Bobbers and MGX-21, the largest cruiser total black submitted in August world premiere at the 76th Sturgis motorcycle rally," explained the parent company of Pontedera. It is an event that dates back to 1937 and takes place in South Dakota. "He has found great appreciation among both customers and among the international journalists covering the industry."

Other important changes were the Moto Guzzi V7III, created to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the birth of the first model of V7, and V9 My 2017. From the shores of the lake the Eagle of Mandello is flying around the globe: Europe, the Americas , Oceania, Asia, from London to Liverpool to Vienna, from Lisbon to Stuttgart from Toulon on the French Riviera to Sydney, Taipei in Taiwan in Jakarta and Bali in Indonesia, from Port Louis, capital of Mauritius, in Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam and now Bangkok, Thailand. Could not be a better gift to celebrate 95 years of the company founded 15 March 1921 by the rider Emanuele Vittorio Parodi, his son Giorgio and his friend Carlo Guzzi, with the name of an anonymous company Moto Guzzi. The brand from Lecco seem distant times of crisis and in many hope even in an imminent return to track racing, as the golden era of Bruno Ruffo and world championships won in series.

"To inspire its guzzisti were the same managers of Mandello home, on the occasion of the celebration for the 95th anniversary: "We open a five-year period that will take us to the centenary of this glorious brand. We will have amazing new products, but we also boast a sporting past of great value, impressive legacy that pushes us to think of a return to racing ", had announced from the temple of the MotoGP in Misano Adriatico. But it is the entire Piaggio Group to run fast. Net revenues in the year just ended amounted to 1.3131 billion euro, almost 18 more than the previous one, with net income in the budget of 14 million euro, an increase of 18.3%. A total of 532 thousand vehicles were sold, of which 344 thousand motorcycle or two-wheeled vehicles, an increase of 6.7%."

When I bought my V7 II, last month, I went to the dealer shopping only for the future.
I bought a new Yamaha dual sport last December to explore local trails, but told my wife when I bought it that it would be short term.
I figured just under a year.   It is not uncommon for me to buy a new vehicle (on 4 wheel vehicle #33) and immediately start thinking about "what will be next?"
Even thought I would take it 220 miles to our ranch...but the seat was not conducive to that.
A 160 mile day ride resulted in a very uncomfortable tailbone.
Sportster seats are now too low
Yamaha SCR900 ergonomics not compatible
Already had a new Triumph Bonneville 865cc...but strongly considered a Street Twin.
Honda CB110 price is rather high

The V7 II suits my needs extremely well.
I did not intend to buy it, yet, but the $5,995 price made be return the next day with a check.
I thought I was doing good to get 10% off the Triumph in 2012 ($7,700 down to $7,000, if I recall correctly)

Glad to hear it!

Even if they've veered off in some strange new directions, I hope they stay a viable brand... :thumb:

At age 70, the V7 II  may be my last M/C and I am happy enough with it right now that I do not mind.

Had I waited for the V7 III (and paid another $3K) I would have lost the separate analog tach on the Stone model.
More HP is always nice, but I do not need to cruise over 85 MPH.

This is very good news. It is also proof that Piaggio is wise in taking the direction they have in marketing.

This is very good news. It is also proof that Piaggio is wise in taking the direction they have in marketing.

I'll give two examples otherwise, at least in what is directed toward the U.S.

Cycleworld, this month "year of the Scrambler" headline. On the back cover? Flip it over and what's there? IDONTKNOW the Stornello would be perfect there....but instead...v7iii. Big missed opportunity in my book...who at cycleworld, or was it mg advertising that missed that. Imagine one profile Stornello, run horizontal huge on the back page, bigger than the trumpet on the front.

My second example, is the translated mangled Italian.from above...IDONTKNOW but maybe it's okay to write in English these days....why should anyone have to translate?

Of course I'm wearing North American eyeglasses...sales of the V9 must be soaring around the world.

Third, the barefoot guy dreaming on his bike....really? Yes, Guzzi up from 8k to 9k, that's great. I wonder how the percentages play out between countries...?

One of you smart guys do the math and tell us how many years before Guzzi passes Honda in sales . I tried , but this computer won't count that high

Anyway , congratulations to Mandello  :thumb:

This is good news. Obviously, if Piaggio and Guzzi aren't healthy we won't see Guzzi in North America in the future.

However, I didn't see any news about North American sales. They rarely publish U.S. sales because they are so low.  Based on the amount of leftover stock seen for sale, I doubt they have sold any better than in years past.  I would guess about 300 Guzzi sold in the U.S. in 2016. Aprilia probably sold 100 motorcycles.

I'm surprised they'd spend much of anything for the back of Cycle World. Nothing against the magazine, but the American magazine reader/purchaser may not be who they are chasing.

Unless the V9 series have gone balistic in Europe, which I doubt, I can't see them contributing much of anything. I mean??? So far as far as I'm aware one person who contributes to WG has bought one, now this is just about the largest board on the web devoted to Guzzi and overall I'd say reflects the purchasing demographic pretty well. So one, out of how many contributors?

In Oz they are selling like rat sandwiches. I've never seen one on the road, I don't know of a shop that has sold one! I've never had a hint of an enquiry!

Maybe they're selling somewhere, Mordor maybe? But they aren't selling in the real world.

My guess is a lot of the rise is down to the MGX thingy in the US because the US loves Cruisers.

Maybe we have to translate because the article came from an Milan newspaper published in Italian. Not much choice but to read it in mangled translation or not read it at all.
That same newspaper also published the below article about the new concept of the Piaggio group opening stores that carry the full line of all their motorcycles.
They even have a new store in Sydney. They seem to be focusing their growth in Asia according to the article and they name the store Motoplex.

The Mandello Eagle flying around the world
Thanks to the strengthening of the distribution network of Piaggio is present on all continents

Thank heavens I pulled the pin! I dread what such an enterprise as a 'Motoplex' would fling my way as warranty work!
