Starting a new thread on this. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.
The gathering is set for the Ouray KOA, Sept. 7-10 (the nights of 9/7-9/9). The proprietress, Deborah, will take your reservation at 970-216-4009. They have both cabins and tent sites available. TELL HER YOU ARE WITH THE MOTO GUZZI GROUP, and she will put us together as best she can. She recommended making a reservation soon as they are already booking up for Sept.
Spread the word and I look forward to seeing many of you there! Here is their info, but call the number above if you are calling soon, as they are currently closed.

I plan to organize/lead 2 rides as part of the WG Western Adventure.
On Friday Sept. 8, we will head south from Ouray on the "Million Dollar Highway" to Durango, crossing Red Mountain, Coal Bank and Molas passes. We then loop west and return over Lizard Head Pass to Telluride and then over the spectacular Dallas Divide, through Ridgeway and returning to Ouray. This loop is about 225 miles total and is considered by many to be the most beautiful drive in Colorado. An option for those with Stelvios or a penchant for dirt is to take Last Dollar Road from Telluride back toward the Dallas Divide. A shortcut through huge Aspen groves.
On Saturday Sept. 9, we will ride northwest on Colorado highways 145 and 141 to Gateway. This ride is completely different, through a red rock canyon more reminiscent of Utah than Colorado, but a great road and beautiful scenery. In Gateway, we will have lunch and visit the Gateway Auto Museum. For those who are not familiar with this museum, it is spectacular! Not huge, but all of the cars are beautifully restored and displayed in a manner than makes this the best car museum I have ever visited. We will then complete the loop, returning via US 50 and 550 through Delta and Montrose. This loop is about 250 miles, but the roads are generally faster than the Friday ride.
I will prepare maps and itineraries for these rides. Those wishing to only do a portion of the ride are welcome to join for as long as you wish, but I am hoping many of you will want to join me.

Might see you guys on 9/9...we'll be heading down from Steamboat to Telluride via Ouray naturally on the morning of the 9th. Good chance we'd run into some folks unless everyone is leaving early on the 9th...all those roads are great ones....hopefully there is no construction on 550 like last summer.
-
I'll be there available for parties and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs until Monday the 11th...
-
Alan. You might take a look at the latest Rider magazine.
They've got the 550 loop, 50, 145, 149 and 160. Photos and all.

I rode to Salida via Durango, north on the Million Dollar Highway, stopping in Ouray for lunch (and not finding any. Where I wanted to eat was closed between 2 and 5 pm) then onto Montrose .
A right turn there took my over Monarch Pass then down into Salida. I would need to have the breadth of vocabulary equal to Shakespeare to be able to describe the beauty of that ride!

Will be riding my 50,000 mile 2004 Breva 750 - you know, the one that is "too small for touring." :thumb:

Ouray is amazing. Rode this section of Colorado many years ago on my Triumph. Would love to return someday...

I love Southern Colorado. Wouldn't you just know that my anniversary is on the 8th...

Alan,
Do you have a cabin number or tent site number where most will be staying at the Ouray KOA. For those of us who want to look on the map.
Thanks,

Sorry, I don't. I am sure if you call you can get that information. I was told that they would try to keep us together if you mention that you are part of the Moto Guzzi group.

I'm planing on doing the COBDR in that time frame, but haven't set a firm date for the start. Guess I'll have to reverse plan so I can be there at least for one night!

I'm in. I reserved a cabin arriving Tuesday, Sept 5 leaving Sunday the 10th. Anyone who's arriving early, let me know. Dennis

So, will alanp:
- Ride his brand new but everybody-knows-a750-is-too-small-to-tour-on black V7-II to Ouray, or,
- Will he succumb to the silky-smooth-but-numb charms of his FJR mile-destroyer?
I say:
- In the event of (1) that we always keep a free beer in Alan's hand to reward his "sacrifice."
- In the event of (2) then Alan owes all of us a free beer to atone for his transgression.
Any votes?

Such subtle attempts at persuasion....
Having ridden with the self proclaimed MOTOGeezer on his 750 Breva, I may need the FJR to keep up with him!

If you'd like some company on the way out shoot me a PM. I'll be leaving from Clovis Ca. My plan is to ride to 4 corners, start the COBDR and end up in Ouray sometime over the 4 days everyone will be there. I'm figuring that I should be in Ouray on day two of the COBDR. And of course, if you would like to do the whole BDR you'd be welcome. If not, I've always wanted to ride with another Guzzi... :thumb:

I doubt that having been to the Ouray KOA a few years ago and also owning a 750 Breva. We're talking 8-9K' altitudes here. True, on that trip I didn't have my Breva, but still the altitude makes a big difference on smaller motors. Now if I had been on my Suzuki VX800 there wouldn't have been any issue.

There are many roads to Ouray, Colorado, USA.
This map may be of help to those underprivileged riders who do not know their way around Colorado.
Ouray is #9 on the map.

Ouray is a great town to enjoy...anything down by the Uncompaghre is sweet...even the campground above the town is a fantastic place to camp with great views of the town. The many 4x4 trails running thru there, Imogene over to Telluride, Black Bear (the hard way to Telluride), Ophir Pass from Silverton to Telluride, the Alpine loop - hitting Engineer Pass, Poughkeepsie Gulch and many of the high alpine lakes are fantastic trails to run...even if you don't have a Stelvio set up with offroad tires or BDR experience on a moto, take the time to rent a jeep for a day and enjoy getting into the back country.
As the days get closer, we'll see if we can camp that night on 9/9 at the KOA or somewhere else in town before heading over to Telluride for the week...

The original True Grit with John Wayne was filmed there . The restaurant I wanted to eat at is full of pictures and memorabilia from the movie.

Yeah , of course it should have been filmed in Arkansas and a little bit in Oklahoma . Even the Coen brothers version was shot in Texas hill country , which looks nothing at all like West Central Arkansas .

Yeah. the 2010 version was also shot extensively at a movie ranch just outside Santa Fe New Mexico.
Not much resemblance to Fort Smith, McAlester, and the Winding Stair Mountains in either movie, but I love both versions. It's a cool story of adventure and perseverance in The West.
And I like the Arkansas Connection.

Forgot about the Santa Fe thing . The Winding Stair (Ouchita) range would have made an incredible location and since that's where the story actually took place in the book ... Of course our coastal brothers would never believe we have that type of topography in Oklahoma

I have to disagree. I think the winter Ouachitas look quite a bit like the Coen's location whether it was New Mexico or Texas. Frankly, I thought it looked less like the Rockies and more like Okla/Ark.
And the town they shot in Texas looked like a frontier town but have no idea what Ft Smith looked like 140 years ago.
Back to he point, the gas station/diner at Ridgeway has quite a bit of Duke stuff.
-
The 2010 movie was a little better. But both movies kind of miss the setting of McAlester's which was at the junction of two well traveled roads, "The Texas Road" (Shawnee Trail) and "The Calfornia Road". Yankee war veteran J.J. McAlester set up his trading post there in 1869, and the town got Katy rail service in 1872. With coal mines in the area, the well-traveled roads, and the railroad, McAlester's was not an isolated outpost at the time of the setting of True Grit, which is well after the end of The War.

Now if I had been on my Suzuki VX800 there wouldn't have been any issue.
The best thing about the VX800 is the elevation-compensating carburetion. I loved the power over the passes (photo: Loveland Pass, 12,000 feet). Just didn't like the long-wheelbase handling.

Alan, Dan, Redhawk: Assuming you take US 50 across, maybe I could link up with you in Montrose for the last leg. I'd suggest riding McClure Pass through Paonia but that would mean three or four hours on the Interstate.

My second choice for routing is back roads to Boulder, Hwy 93, C470 or the road by Red Rocks thru Morrison, US 285, US 50, US 550.
My first choice is Trail Ridge Road (and Fall River Road, dirt), Gore Pass, Colorado River Road (dirt), Glenwood Canyon, McClure Pass, US 50/550. Preferred option: Colo 92, Hotchkiss to Sapinero (north rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison). Colorado River Road can be skipped by riding CO 131 to Wolcott and taking US6 (the frontage road) to Dotsero.

I am with Redhawk on his first choice, except for maybe the dirt sections, only because of time. We'll have to look at how many hours that is. But trailridge, Gore pass and McLure pass would be fun and minimize I70. Of course, we may also have to think about snow on trailridge.

If you decide on McClure, I'll join you in Paonia. My new place is just 100 yards off the highway, so you might as well stop by for refreshment.

Boy time flies! Two years since the Cripple Creek Rally. I will certainly be at the Ouray Rally this fall. Great riding area and great hot springs to soothe a saddle sore butt after a long day on the road. Interesting also to learn Testarossa just moved into Paonia about a mile or so away from where I live in Paonia. Two Guzzis parked in downtown Paonia! Didn't know if I would see the day.

The VX wheelbase is the same as the early big block Guzzis like my CX100.(60") The VX just has a lot longer swingarm than the Guzzis and I like that in that you don't get any jacking effect in acceleration like you do with the Guzzis. All your better handling bikes have a longer swingarm than they used to.

Traded the Stelvio in for a V7II. Loved the Stelvio but it was just too big for me. Loving the V7II.
I'll save a camping space for you; have room for two more.
Just got back from the CSC Baja trip. 8 days, 2000 miles, 14 CSC RX3s, no problems. All pavement except 20 miles of dirt to the cave paintings. Great weather and food.

To me, the VX felt a bit top-heavy. It was solid and predictable over 30 mph but below that seemed to fall into turns, disconcertingly. Wasn't comfortable cornering in town in traffic, and in very tight switchbacks in the hills.

I agree it feels a bit top heavy when turning at slow speed. But that and not having 2 front brakes are the only things I could find imperfect about it. I changed the handlebar and added a Rifle fairing + hard saddlebags + top case.

Pretty much. 99 to 58, then 40 I believe . What ever is shortest. I'm running knobies so what ever is shortest. I'll keep the pressures high and the speed under 90 mph. Worked well on the return home from the IDBDR. Same time of year, more slab time. The shinkos did well and that was around 3,400 miles door to door. Only thing I'm doing different is a 0 degree bag. Spent a night freezing in yellow pine ID with a 20 degree bag from a box store. Was so bloody cold that when I hung my wash cloth on my bars in the morning, it was frozen stiff in 20 minutes. And it was hot water I washed up with!

I'm for a meetup in Montrose CO with all, including Testarossa, who are coming from NE Colorado (Denver, Longmont, Berthoud, Boulder, etc.).
I am definitely a pavement-only type of rider. Therefore best for me is 285 out of Morrison to 50 (Poncha Springs), 50 to Gunnison & Montrose, thence 550 south to Ouray. Beautiful ride with no dirt/gravel and no Interstate 70. :thumb:

There's bound to have been more to it than that. They didn't just say "Maldita, mira esta zanja. ¿Debemos ir alrededor?" and walk on. Someone had to say "Oh WOW" in 16th century Spanish ....

Great photos! But you can't really do justice to the Black Canyon in a photo.

You're right about that! It's a spectacular place...worthy of many visits! :)

Just booked a cabin for three days!

This area is my back yard, since I live between Montrose and Ridgway and have riden all of the local roads many times. You really need at least a week to explore the great roads out here. If my schedule allows, I will partake in the festivities. To those that are interested in this ride, do all you can to make the trip. You will not be disapointed!

Hello folks. I am fairly new to the Guzzi brand, but I have been bitten pretty hard. I picked up a Stelvio in August of 2015, and added a California Touring to the stable in April of this year. I have booked a spot at the KOA in Ouray during your Adventure and look forward to meeting you.

What happens if I don't reserve something before I arrive? Will there still be places to sleep available?

There should be no problem finding a campsite if you have a tent and sleeping bag. You might need to reserve a cabin at the camp ground since they are limited.
There are also motels and lodges in Ouray about 5 miles away.

Just bumping this up and keeping the conversation going. Hope to see many of you there. Sept. Will be here before you know it.

Here's two pics taken during the last Ouray gathering in 2013.
The one of me and my Breva 750 shows one of the better vistas in all of Colorado. It is near Ridgeway, which is "just up the street" from our 2017 campsite in Ouray.
Imagine substituting you and your bike for me and mine in that picture! Hope to see you there! 'Geezer

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I plan to lead two rides during the Western Adventure that will capture some of the best sites and scenery Colorado has to offer. If you are interested in joining on one or both, please let me know as I am trying to gauge interest.
Here is a map of the Friday ride (double click to enlarge):
(http://thumb.ibb.co/eENik5/Ouray_2017_Friday.jpg) (http://ibb.co/eENik5)
post images (http://imgbb.com/)
This ride will be full of scenery and great riding. If we are lucky we will see the Durango/Silverton steam train running along the tracks as we near Durango. Also, I recently learned that there is a Motus dealer in Dolores where I plan to stop for lunch. I can't really imagine there being a Motus dealer there, but I will be contacting them to see if it would be worth a visit. In the afternoon, we will traverse Lizard Head Pass and the Dallas Divide, which are two of my favorite rides in the state.
The Saturday ride map:
(http://thumb.ibb.co/dA7Yk5/Ouray_2017_Saturday.jpg) (http://ibb.co/dA7Yk5)
This ride repeats the Dallas Divide, but is otherwise about as different from Fridays ride as you could ask for. Rather than high mountain passes, much of this ride will be traveling through the gorgeous Dolores River red rock canyon to Gateway. We will have lunch in Gateway and visit the Gateway Auto Museum.
http://gatewayautomuseum.com/
It is not a huge museum, but the quality of the cars and the presentation makes it the best vehicle museum I have visited.
Please let me know if you are interested in either of these rides. They are both all day affairs, and I understand it may be too much riding for some. If that's the case, I may propose some other options.
Special thanks to MOTOGeezer for putting these maps together for us!

I'm still toying with coming up for this, but there's something seriously non-red suspenders about this KOA - $85 and up for a cabin with no bathroom or bedding? Yow!

All that scenery comes at a cost. Come on and join us, it is a great place to ride! And the cabins I have seen have 2 beds, so rent one and I am sure you can find someone to share it with if you mention you are looking to do so.
-
As an added incentive, I have contacted the Motus dealer in Dolores and they currently have 3 in stock. We will be traveling through there on Friday 9/8 so I will set up a visit for us. We will also be stopping for lunch in Dolores that day.

Alanp - first thank you for putting this together. I know it can be thankless.
For those of us who have grown soft and prefer beds to sleeping bags.
Hot showers and private bath rooms. (Yes, we are weak)
Is there a motel you could recommend as a rally motel?.
It need not offer any deals. Just be a place you would recommend.
Those of us who are not campers could stay together in one place.
Mike
-
the town of Ouray is a couple of miles south. There are several hotels, lodges and hot springs there. It's a vacation spot.
Twenty miles north is Montrose with all the discount and name brand hotels.

I thought this was a "no wimps" not-a-rally.

Mike,
I can't really recommend anything because I am not personally familiar with any places, and I don't know what people require or are willing to pay. But LowRyter is correct. There are quite a few options in Ouray, Ridgeway to the north and Montrose further north. I am pretty sure Montrose will be less costly and will have the most options, but it is about 30 miles away.
Also, note that the Ouray KOA has cabins which only require you to have a sleeping bag, if that is of interest.
I do suggest this. If you find a place and wouldn't mind, why don't you post the name and the approx. cost here and then others may choose to join you. Thanks, and hope to see you there!

There is also the town of Ridgeway about 8 miles north of The KOA. Nice town with hotels, much closer than Montrose. :)

If you go to Montrose do me a favor . Make a stop at the Red Barn restaurant and apologize to the very cute waitress whose heart I broke some years back  You'll know here when you see her .

If it was far enough back that you were breaking hearts, we may have some trouble recognizing her!

I've stayed at the campground at Ridgway State Park (as well as the KOA). RSP had some Yurts there to rent. I didn't remember any hotels there but looking at google it does appear there a couple.
BTW- Ridgway is where John Wayne movie True Grit was filmed.

Stopped by the Ouray KOA, and this place is HUGE. I know they said they would TRY to keep us together since some are camping and some are in cabins, etc, but I think we need to find out exactly what they are planning our we might be spread apart so far it might not be much fun. Here is the campground map.

AA- I think the place is big enough that you guys should be able to find a spot where you can camp together. But the cabins are in a separate area vs the tents.

It worked out fine for us in 2013. We met up for dinner on Saturday Night in the restaurant and had BBQ.
We had a couple of campfires going at night, outside cabins, and in the mornings we met at the restaurant for coffee.
Good Times! I really hate it that I can't make it this year.
-
What Rocker said above.
When I set this up with the KOA I asked that they do their best to keep folks in the Moto Guzzi group together. We will have to trust them to do that. The key is (bold just for emphasis, I am not yelling at anyone )
WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR RESERVATION MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM YOU ARE WITH THE MOTO GUZZI GROUP. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY RESERVED AND DID NOT TELL THEM, I SUGGEST CALLING THEM BACK AND REQUESTING TO BE PLACED NEAR THE GROUP.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback and your help with this. I am really looking forward to it, and to seeing many of you there!
-
I attended the '13 with a cabin and if your in a cabin or camping on the ground its just not a problem.
No worries.
:-)
BTW
The cabin I rented and the others I saw had mattresses on the beds so you can most likely get away with a blanket rather than a sleeping bag, I did.
I was there but I can't remember if I was in a tent or a cabin! I was living in Denver that year and didn't have a tent with me so maybe it was a cabin, but I was right next to ChuckH and he had a tent, so maybe I had one too .....
Oh well, it was a really nice campground and the group was pretty much together (by request) and it all worked out great, so I'm sure it will work out again .... Everyone have a good time!

Since I plan to spend the week in Colorado following the "Top of the Rockies", I'd like to check out that route to Gateway that Rocker has written about.
I am not sure if I want to use my senior pass and camp in the Black Canyon or down in Ouray.
Thanks for the map routes. :thumb:

Just checking back in!
I'll be swinging through for one night while doing the COBDR. I'll be leaving Clovis Ca, Wednesday, getting to Four Corners Thursday, (official start of the COBDR) Depending on how early I get to Four Corners (850 miles from my doorstep) will determine how far I get on the first leg. With a bit of luck and not a lot of weather I should be in Ouray Friday evening. Hope to meet some of you, do a bit of bench racing, swap some lies, then push on the following morning.
See Ya there!

Y'all know I'm coming all the way from Germany for this. Maybe a good excuse to come, or to stay away😁😁😁!
See you in September!

Wish you could go to this Ouray Guzzi Gathering, but don't have a bike (or not sure yours will make it)?

Not sure if you have made arrangements with the KOA or not, but the Creekside Cafe that serves food there usually closes on Labor Day weekend. I can't recall if you were counting on them for meals or not. I stayed there last September after Labor Day and was a little disappointed that I didn't read the schedule. It looks like it's the same this year, as well.

UTrider, thanks for that! I was planning to gather there the first night. I will verify if they will be open or not.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!
We are getting close! I have verified that unfortunately the onsite restaurant at the KOA will be closed when we are there.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON JOINING IN ON ONE OF THE GROUP DAY RIDES On Sept. 8 or 9;
I will be in Cabin 22A. Please come to my cabin at 8:45 AM with a full tank of gas on the morning of the ride for a short preride meeting. I will hand out maps and discuss the ride details. The rides will begin from my cabin at 9:00 AM. My contact info:

I have no other organized plans, but am thinking of making a Thursday and Friday night dinner reservation for a group of interested folks. If you would like to join me for dinner please let me know so I can get a head count. Thanks.
Another quick note. For the Friday ride, I have verified that the Four Corners Motus in Dolores will be expecting us. They currently have 3 Motus (Moti?) in stock. They are also a Vincent restoration shop and will likely have several Vincents and a few other assorted interesting bikes. This will be an interesting place to checkout.

Anyone coming from the left coast, or maybe want to meet up along the way? I'm taking hwy 99 to hwy 58, then hwy 40 to Flagstaff, then 89/160 to four corners. I'm starting the COBDR at that point, but would enjoy the company!
-
Alan, Count me in for dinner Thur & Fri, and for Sat also?

I'm in for dinner also. I arrive in Ouray on Tuesday September 5, hope to stay through Sunday morning. Dennis

I'll ride down on Thursday and will spend the night with a friend in Ouray. Will be there for Friday's ride and its aftermath. I may head home Friday night, certainly on Saturday morning, because we're due to leave for California to celebrate my dad's 95th birthday.

Seth,
Looking forward to seeing you. If it works out, we are still planning on meeting you along the way on Thursday. We just have to settle on our route and exact schedule. I would like to come up from 50 through Crawford and meet you in Paonia or Hotchkiss. Just not sure we will have time. We will be in touch with more info in a week or so.

Alan, it would be easy to meet you in Crawford, or anywhere along 92.
-
Well you all have a nice ride out in Ouray,Colo
When Rocker got this ride up A few years back my son an myself sure had a nice time in the area.
Don't forget to go to the heated pools north of the campground it is well worth the soaking in the hot pools believe me.

Alan: At your rate of oil pressure, I figure six hours from Niwot to Crawford, allowing for Denver traffic and a fuel stop/snack. That would put you into Crawford around 2pm, and Ouray KOA around 4pm. Keep me posted on your timing --
-
Alan,
Are you guys heading over on Hiway 50 or keeping to a more northern route? We will be coming across Hiway 24 to Johnson Corner and going over Monarch Pass on Thursday. Likely to cross paths somewhere along the way if you are on 50.

Seth, Mike:
I just confirmed last night our plan is to leave Boulder at 7:00 AM, which does put us in Johnson Village at about 10:00, and Crawford at 2:00-ish. Mike, If you want to try to meet at Johnson Village we would love to have you join us. There will be 4 of us coming down from Boulder. Getting excited for this trip!
-
That should be pretty close to our projected schedule, so we'll plan on meeting up around 10! I have your phone # in case our schedules diverge (if it's the same one you had last year).

Hwy 50 currently has some pain in the ass roadwork being done. Tried to ride to Gunnison last week and turned around when I saw a mile of cars waiting in line. Decided to go the other way to Montrose and was stopped by ANOTHER road project. I just went back home up the Black Canyon Hwy 92. Here is the Cotrip.org road work description:

Here's a question: How many of us are equipped with Bluetooth intercomms? I have a Sena 5.

I'm all set. Reservation for the KOA for Saturday night. Leaving Clovis Ca Thursday and expect to be in Ouray on the 9th mid day. Looking forward to the Adventure!
-
I have a SENA-5 also , don't quite know what the range is though.
-
I don't believe anyone else in our group traveling from eastern CO has a Sena or similar device.

LAST CALL
Looking forward to seeing everyone. As noted earlier, the restaurant at the KOA is unfortunately closed when we are there. I am making dinner reservations in town for Thurs., Friday, and Sat. nights. I had four folks say yes to that above. Anybody else want a place at the table? I will be making the reservations in the next day or so.

I'm in for Thursday dinner in Ouray, maybe Friday.

Dinner and meetup Plans:
Thursday night, we will be meeting at the Ouray Brewery, 607 Main Street, at 6:30
PM. There IS NOT a reservation as they don't take them, however they said they had lots of seating so I am not expecting an issue.
Friday night, there is currently no plan. The only places I could find that take reservations are pretty expensive and I didn't want to commit to that. Hoping we can check out the town and discuss on thursday and come up with a plan then.
Sat. night, we have a reservation at Bon Ton, 426 Main St., at 6:00 PM. This is the most reasonable place I found that takes a reservation. It is Italian.
Looking forward to seeing everyone. I expect to arrive in Ouray around 4:30 PM on Thursday.
I have maps for the Friday and Saturday rides.
I am staying in Cabin 22A. 303-944-8594 (call or text)

Just curious, are there any wives or females coming? My wife is coming with me.
-
I'm leaving Denver for Telluride tomorrow (Sunday), then to the Ouray KOA on Tuesday night. If any of you Thursday folks need anything, give me a call on the cell: 303. 328. 7610. My plan is to go to Silverton Thursday morning, back at the KOA by mid afternoon. Dennis

Yes! Bring tequila, salt, & limes....

.My daughter will be there. She will be riding her own bike.

Anyone else thinking about heading to the Hot Spring after the rides Fri/Sat ?

I only made a reservation for Sat. night, so I can add people to that after we get a "final" headcount Thursday night. We are meeting at the Ouray brewery at 6:30 Thursday, and can discuss plans for Friday then. The restaurant options for big groups at a reasonable cost are limited.
-
If you enjoy a good steak the Outlaw restaurant should be on your short list.

It does look good, but most entre prices were $30+. I wasn't willing to commit to that on behalf of the group. This is a Guzzi gathering, not a Beemer gathering
but if people want to try I can make a reservation for Friday night.
-
The True Grit Cafe, in Ridgway had a pretty good menu and reasonable prices as I recall.

Yes sir, the film was made there. At least according to the information presented to us, while we were there.

I'm at the KOA. The brook is burbling, the beer downtown is cold, all seems well. If anyone wants to meet before going downtown Thursday evening, I'm in Kabin no. 83. Dennis

I will be arriving Saturday afternoon. What is the head count up to? Is there room at the restaurant?

Skippy,
I will add you to our dinner reservation for Sat. Night. Seems like we are looking at somewhere between 15 and 20 folks, but like yourself, not all will be there at the same time or for the entire weekend. I has a dinner reservation for 12, but it is up to 15 now.

Great to hear that a good time was had by all. Except me. I did't feel well and left the KOA Friday morning. I't's now Monday morning and I'm still in the hospital after having my gall bladder removed.
I guess the moral is that we need to take advantage of meets like this while we can.

Sorry to hear that, dx. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Get well soon!
-
Really sorry to hear that dx. We missed having you ride with us. Get well soon!

Well, it was a good gathering despite a few unfortunate events; dx's illness mentioned above and a nighttime bear attack on a tank bag. Have only heard about this one, and hope there wasn't much damage to the bike.
Check back in a day or two for more good pics. I don't take many but I know there are some good ones that were taken and I would love to see them. But here are a few I have:
The view of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. There was a lot of haze due to the many wildfires in the west.

My wife and I had a super time! This was her first "not a rally" rally or get together and she really enjoyed the vibe and atmosphere. It was great to talk to everyone and get others perspective and input. Dinner Saturday night was so enjoyable, and everyone was so gracious.
Alan, thanks again for taking the time, effort and energy to put this together! Looking forward to 2 yrs from now, already.

First and foremost: Thank You! to "alanp" who organized and orchestrated this Guzzi Romp through the great state of Colorado, USA!

You can view and/or download any or all of the 145+ image (.JPG .jpg), video (.MOV), and other (.txt .pdf) files you find there. If you select the "Tiles" display option then a nice slide show of all the image files is available.

Great pictures Dan! Glad I could make the highlight reel. LOL
Sent you an email to upload the video from Vicky's phone.
Thanks for taking the time to memorialize the trip.
Mike, Vicky really enjoyed having Michelle there and her spirit and enthusiasm was fun to be a part of. Thanks for posting your pictures as well.

Thanks Dan! Great photos, well worth a look everyone. There is even a video of my Motus test ride.

Vicky, Michelle just said "aw shucks". I do thank you for the compliment. We really enjoyed your company on the trip.

Just a note to y'all in wrap-up of the Great Guzzy Ouray Gathering last weekend.
The GPS on my 2004 Moto "Everyone-Knows-A-750-Is-Too-Small-To-Tour" Guzzi Breva 750 shows about 1,200 miles logged during the 4-day round trip.
The "Max Speed" panel reads 87 mph for the same ride. Is that even possible for such a tiddler? Still, I thank all those 1100, 1200, & 1400cc riders who were kind enough to throttle back and keep me in their mirrors.

Checking back in!
I had a great time Saturday night at dinner! Had the opportunity to meet some really great folks, do a little "bench racing" and reminisce a bit about the old days!.
I completed the COBDR and am back at the house. Made it back Wednesday night around 11:00 pm. Total mileage for the trip, 2,691, with about 640 miles in the dirt. I do do the Alpine loop, including Corkscrew, California, Hurricane, and Cinnamon passes. With the exception of not doing Cottonwood pass due to it being closed, and Haggerman due to weather, I rode the whole BDR.
Here are a couple pics of the ride:

Good times!
Thanks again for letting me tag along! Saturday night was a great diversion! It was also the last night I didn't eat food I didn't have to boil water for for the next 4 days!
Cheers
