I was , ahem, driving to my fitness training last night (but I was rocking out to Rory Gallagher ) when I saw a guy working on his smallish motorcycle in a parking. He was on the other side of the street so I had to turn around so's I could see if I could somehow help. Two motorcyclists past me as I waited to go back to the parking lot. Kinda pissed me off.
Anyway, it was a young guy around 20 years of age with a 1983 Honda 200. He was having a problem with the throttle sticking and had the top of the carb off as I pulled up.
We discussed things as he repeatedly took off and put back on the top part of the carb where the cable attaches to the slide. Top off, slide goes back to position. Top on , throttle sticks open some.
Another problem was it was very quickly getting dark and he lived a few km away. So, after about the third attempt, we called it 'as good as its gonna get'and decided that he should get it home and fix it properly in the morning.
He shook my hand and said thanks when he was finished putting it back together. He asked where I was from and I told him the USA. Cool, he says. I like America and Americans are so cool. Well,okay 😊
I waited for him to fire up the bike and check the throttle a few times. It was still sticking, but not too badly. It would throttle down after a little bit. I let him go first, making sure he got on his way before I left.
I was way late for fitness training 😂😂

Always good to stop, no matter where you are, when you see a lone motorcyclist working on a bike, or sitting disconsolately by his bike on the shoulder.
Of course, depending where you are, you need to make sure you're not being "set up" by the guy's budd(ies), but if you've got your antenna up, you can watch out for that sort of trouble.
Sometimes I'll stop on the side of the road to adjust something on a long ride on an old Brit bike (or my old Eldo or my old SP, more than once), and I'm always pleased and surprised by the number of people who stop and ask "You OK, man?"

2-3 weeks ago, I slowed along a full dress H-D riding slowly along the paved shoulder of southbound highway 95, just north of Las Vegas.
My first thoughts were that he had motor issues...but I was wrong:
He lost his Glock 19 out of his holster and was looking for it.

If I see a bike on the side of the road I always slow down and give an OK sign and see what the response is. So far I have always got an OK back but if not I would stop to offer whatever assistance I could offer.
