A horror with a happy ending, fortunately.

A friend of mine was riding on an L.A. freeway when a hide a bed couch came of the back of a truck.

He was able to avoid crashing but it scared the hell  outa him!

You don't often get knocked down by an object that also gives you a soft place to fall.

Lucky guy!   Possibly some good reactions too, although he didn't have time to think about it ....

Yeah, I saw that last night.   Actually he was lucky the mattress got stuck between his wheels, thereby stopping his forward motion..........and padding him if he fell off the bike !  :thumb:   Someone up above must have been looking out for him.

Decades ago on my way to work I was following a lumber truck loaded with cut wood on my bike.   I wanted to get around him but oncoming traffic impeded me from doing that. Then all of a sudden 1 of those big fabric straps that hold the wood on his flatbed released and came flying off his trailer on the left side of his truck!    If I had been passing him when that happened, no telling what would have happened to me.  The trucker was unaware what had just transpired, so I got in front of him and made him pull over before his load shifted.  He thanked me as he told me if he didn't get that strap laying on the other lane fast enough someone else would pick it up and leave.

I had a Ford Maverick lose it's hood in front of me on I-610 in Houston back in the eighties. Fortunately, I was not riding that day and just crushed it beneath the wheels of my GMC...
