Local boxing team is back in the NHL Stanely Cup playoffs for the first time in a decade., series starts tonight with Oilers playing San Jose.

Congrats for the Oilers but there is something wrong if Hockey is being played when motorcycle season starts. I say that, and I'm Canadian.

Even more jarring is the idea of an NHL team in San Jose

It would be a whole lot more impressive if they didn't let three quarters of the teams into the playoffs!
Nonetheless, it's good to see a small market team, especially one where I've lived and been a fan, make it. I just get sick when we have year after year without a Canadian team in the Stanley Cup finals.

3 Canadian teams didn't fare too well last night. Let's hope Toronto and Calgary can right the ship!

Unfortunately this is the case with most professional sports. Just another way to stretch out the season another couple of weeks and fill a couple more venues. We all have the choice to not to feed the machine.

Aren't 90% of all the NHL players actually Canadian ? Doesn't that kinda make every NHL team Canadian ?
Dusty
Edit . Oh heck , turns out less than 50% of NHL players are Canadian  How did that happen ??? You Canucks better get this sorted out , this situation isn't acceptable , like learning that Tony Parker is really French

And I have made that choice - haven't attended or even watched a game in years (in any sport). At one point in hockey, there were 80 regular season games and then almost 60 more to win the Cup (if the series went full-length). Not sure what the number works out to now.
Baseball held out the longest before succumbing to this, and is still the sport with the fewest playoff qualifiers out of the regular season. I always loved the classic structure: a National League, and American League, an east and west division for each, and only the top team in the division goes to the playoffs.
And the designated hitter should be outlawed by Constitutional Amendment.
