Title: EV Back on the Road Again.....

.....hopefully. The link sums up the final problem but I just got to making a temporary/permanent solution this past weekend.

I performed by-pass surgery on the offending connector.

Took the bike for a short test ride on Sunday and all seemed to work well. Took the bike to work this morning and no gremlins this morning. So hopefully all is good. It's amazing how one little wire can cause so much trouble.

Now to slowly get it back together and make it ready for the road again.

I got a replacement windshield from a board member.......thank you Chuck "Carlos" DeSantis!! I met Carlos in Illinois and traded him a Portillio's beef sandwich for a replacement shield. This is what happened to mine.

While removing the old windshield I broke the left turn signal stem as the shield bracket was very tight against the turn signal.  :embarrassed: When I originally installed the shield I knew it was tight but I got it to work and it had been that way for some 16 - 17 years. Fortunately I had extras I got from a board member many years ago to have on hand for just such an occasion. So replaced the turn signal, mounted the shield to the frame, which was a little different from the original shield, but it went together. Mounted the frame to the bike......and broke the replacement turn signal. So.....a little confused, since I did not have this problem before, I took the shield apart to examine the parts and found the left bracket is cut higher than the right bracket.

Since I'm running low on extra turn signals (only one left) I figure I need to modify the bracket. But, I don't have any real metal working tools, so the shield will remain off the bike for now until I can find someone to fix it for less money than buying a brand new shield.

Congrats on the wire fix!

For the mounting bracket. If I understand the problem right. May I suggest a Dremel type tool with a few extra grinding stones. A jig saw with a thin blade for metal may work, but I have found that grinding is the easier way. A coping saw with a good metal blade might be a good choice, but I have not found a good metal cutting blade, only wood cutting for it.

A coping saw with a good metal blade might be a good choice, but I have not found a good metal cutting blade, only wood cutting for it.

Thanks Tom......but, since it's stainless it will probably be a little harder to cut. I think I'm gonna try to find a small local metal shop that can do the job right. I would probably muck it up.
