"special" not the word I'd use.. those wheels look goofy, is that a 19 inch front? dump you into corners?
and the rims look like they come from an 883 Sportster..
coffin shape tank isn't congruous to the smooth fairing.
maybe your being sarcastic? I can't tell from here..

Not my taste at all, but yes a Sportster chassis and from my experience the wheels will be no problem at all.

Looks like an Avon fairing, they look good on the old Brits for which they were made, not so much for this one.
Since there's no immediate esthetic appeal, any beauty it might acquire will be from many miles of actually being ridden on the roads ..... !

I wonder if this bike looks better in the flesh. A friend of mine just got one of the newer Matchless bikes with the Rotax engine. I had seen pictures of this bike over the years and generally disliked it but when I saw it up close I thought it looked pretty good. Spoked 18 inch wheels and a little accent paint might make this bike into a good looker?

Nah I like it, the fairing is hand made from alloy, that takes some skill.

The fairing is elegant, the tank hideous. That's an easy fix.

Zero appeal here sorry. Looks wonky with the big front hoop/bitten off tail. A designer he is not.

Yeah , hand hammering an entire fairing takes skill , although they did borrow from the Avon design as Lannis pointed out . Put some spoked wheels on it to tie the motif together maybe .

I think this fairing doesn't work for that bike. The seating position looks all wrong, so that the fairing is more ostentatious display than useful addition. Too bad to see panel-beating skills put to such evil ends.

Oh man I wish you hadn't shown me that. My heart started beating faster and my breath got shallow and I stared at the screen for an inordinate length of time.

Even the non Harley guys have to like this one. The bike is so well balanced and not over the top. I know very little about Harleys but it looks to me like this is mostly a stock Sportster with a few tasteful substitutions. When I changed my T3 to a Le Mans replica I changed the tank, seat, fenders and exhaust. From what I can see here it looks like the same things have been replaced?? I have seen Vincent like Harleys but they were not as nice as this one.

For me the bikes are a bit hit and miss but I can't fault their basic manufacturing skills

First thing I noticed was the footpegs and controls. I could be comfortable on that, and the soles of my boots would NOT be the first thing you see as I'm riding toward you .... !

OEM 16 rear and 19 front. Needs some 18-inch shouldered rim wire wheels.
Oh, and I agree, the coffinized peanut doesn't look right. Needs a Storz road race fuel tank.

Can I buy the tank? (Where?) What about the apparent oil tank on the right side, is it functional or cosmetic? (Where can I buy it?) The seat? The exhaust? The rear sets?
That is, can money plus an internet connection obtain the pieces for this thing? Or is it a one-off, unreproducible except with skills I'll never develop?

1) 1991-2004 5-speed Evo Sportster. The frame is stock, save for the rear fender brace that's been added. Stock Sportsters have a brace on each side that goes straight back.
2) I've seen tanks like that. They're out there. Huge aftermarket. "Google it!"
3) Sportsters are dry-sump and have always had an oil tank on the right, under the seat. It's OEM.
4) Looks like a modified factory Sportster seat.
5) Several companies have made 2:1 exhausts for Sportsters. I used Super Trapp 2:1 on mine.
6) Several companies have made Sportster rearsets. I used Storz Performance parts on mine.
A project like this is actually quite easy to accomplish, what with the HUGE aftermarket that supports these motorcycles. All you need it $$$$ and a little bit of time...
BTW, those are Excel rims laced to OEM Sportster hubs. Sizes look like 18". (OEM HD are 16 and 19, and definitely not retro standard). Woody's can fix up the wheels.
Fork is stock Sportster. Fenders are generic (probably Triumph) aftermarket. Shocks look like they're from Progressive.
Headlight and mounting ears are aftermarket. Gauges have been relocated down and forward.
If you want to buy a nice 1990s Sportster for a project like this, look for a 1200-S. They have adjustable suspension and nicer dual front brakes. Plus the engine has got some Buell goodies on it from the factory.

Minor correction but the last of the solidmount Sportsters was 2003.
If one was interested in building such a thing the 00-03 models would be the best donors if you planned on keeping things like the brakes (only years for 4-pot calipers), wheels (sealed wheel bearings you some need to manually repack at each tire change), and best of the electronics for those era machines.
Edit - yes A 1200S (Sportster Sport) would be the best donor as it would also include:
Dual front discs
Adjustable front and rear suspensions (including shocks with piggyback reservoirs)
Dual plug ignition
Better spec heads
And I believe hotter cams
And yes looks like a modified stock frame. The fender struts were cut off and that brace was added.
And I agree a lot of that would probably be available for purchase to simply bolt on.

That would be cool. There were only 17 or 18 of them in The USA. All but two were retailed. Two were kept by the guys who built them in Tulsa, then were sold later. The one at Barber is the #1 USA bike. I tried to buy it, but the owner wanted it to go to the museum.

There was one for sale in Atlas , it was weird , I walked over and started talking to another guy about it , and started picking out details like the Featherbed frame . He gave me a blank look and said , "don't care , want bad , wife will be mad" :laugh:

The 1200S was better looking before someone added that seat and sissybar, those saddlebags, that exhaust, etc.
