we lost another one
-
he recorded a new album due out in Sept.
-
He said it when he sang "I'm no angel"... considering how hard he was on himself for years, it's surprising that he lasted this long. Thankfully, he was able to get back to writing and playing after some pretty tough spells.
But I still can't understand the Cher thing!
-
End of an era . Greg was once described as "The last living hippie" . Think I'll watch the concert footage of the Allman Bros Band from Woodstock '94 . I can still hear the band breaking into "Dreams" from a show in about 1974 .

Cher still cared for him and sent a touching statement. I get the impression that she raised their son, Elijah.

The man had a lot of ups and downs in his life. Lost a brother and a bassist to motorcycling accidents but was always right there when it came to the music.

To paraphrase the Neville Brothers, "Heaven done called another blues stringer back home".

No! Another legend gone.

I beg to differ...I'm still quite alive, thank you!

In this past year I have seen the Dan Rather interview with Gregg and the "All My Friends" film.. both were very good, the one on one with Gregg to Dan and the live recorded stage show was absolutely amazing.
Quite a line up in fact,
Audley Freed, Brantley Gilbert, Chuck Leavell, Derek Trucks, Devon Allman, Don Was, Dr. John, Eric Church, Jack Pearson, Jackson Browne, Jaimoe, Jimmy Hall, John Hiatt, Keb’ Mo’, Kenny Aronoff, Martina McBride, Pat Monahan, Rami Jaffee, Robert Randolph, Sam Moore, Susan Tedeschi, Taj Mahal, Trace Adkins, Vince Gill, Warren Haynes, Widespread Panic, Zac Brown, The McCrary Sisters
After his performance, Trace Adkins stated that "this is the greatest thing I have done I my career"
Rest In Peace Gregg...

Wow, first I've heard of this. The Allman Brothers have been one of the soundtracks of my life. My parents introduced me to their music early on. I got a chance to see Dickie Betts in a 300 seat theater several years ago too. RIP for one of the great rock legends.

The Big Interview with Dan Rather airs on AXS TV, we have Dish network so we see the series there... this is an excerpt from that show Dean.

The two hour plus long show called "All My Friends" is amazing and will give you chills.. well, it did to me. we see that on Netflix...
This is an intro video...

Edit:
I just noticed that when looking on You Tube, you can see all of that performance in one to two song clips... Bit of a pain in the ass but you do see all of the songs performed by all the guess artists.

I think the southern blues rock jam torch has just been handed to the Tesdeschi-Trucks Band for safe keeping. Jamming on their contributions now! Salute! :boozing:

Well put.
In a way it's the end of an era, but.... The road goes on forever.
May he find peace.

Sad.....I saw him several with the Alman Brothers...They were one of the best "live" bands of their day.
He lived a hard life...but on his terms...so R.I.P. Gregg...and Godspeed...
-
Gosh, I just saw him a couple of years back when he played a festival in New Orleans. As I recall, he still had some chops on the piano...it was a great show. I remember a time in the early seventies when the entire Allman Bothers band got busted for weed in New Orleans. The arraignment judge told them he would let them off if they played a free concert at City Park. They did...and I was there. It was a good time, though my memory is more than a little hazy. Godspeed, brother...thanks for the great music.

Thanks for all the great music Gregg. Interesting that he died on Memorial Day weekend and years ago he deliberately shot himself in one foot to gain a medical exemption from the Vietnam draft.
