Title: Family took me to see Paul Simon in concert!
Post by: bad Chad on June 17, 2017, 05:35:24 PM
What a great fathers day gift, my wife and daughters took me Wed to see Paul Simon perform at Northerly Island, formerly Megs Field, in Chicago, it was Fantastic!

I hope I'm doing half as well is he is at 75!  His voice is just as good as it was 40 years ago, and the guy looks great and moves like he is 45!

I have been a huge Simon fan ever since I was just a little kid, it was a thrill to see him live.  He played many of his great hits from S&G to new songs that are really good stuff.  His most recent album Stranger to Stranger is excellent, by the way.

If you get a chance to see him, I highly recommend you do! :afro:

Awesome!  My daughter is 1000 miles away, but I've been looking forward all week to her phone call tomorrow.  I'm not a huge Paul Simon fan, but I can relate to having a great time with your family at a concert.

I've always liked Paul Simon.  Is he even 5' tall?  :undecided:

1 time my 2nd wife Judy took me to see Crosby, Nash, & Young  :thumb:

In the mid 60s Paul was living in England, and played the local folk clubs. I saw him a few times, once in a barn, with everyone sitting on bales of straw.
I remember on one occasion he brought a friend along to my local club, an American guy who was over for a visit, Art somebody. I didn't feel he added anything to the act.
The last time I saw him was at the NEC at Birmingham, a huge arena, not long after he released Graceland. Still one of my favourite albums.

Is this supposed to be a joke?    From the 60's to Graceland you didn't know who Art Garfunkel was?

He's having fun, apparently not much a Garfunkel fan.  I thought they were fantastic together.

One of my favorites is 'Have a Good Time'. Just as accurate today as it was 40 years ago.

I always liked Garfunkel. I thought he sweetened and lightened the act. I love Paul Simon, but he can be a bit music to slash your wrists by...

Artie can flat out sing.  They were better together IMO, at least onstage.  BTW- I saw some live music last weekend in Boulder CO, purchased the concert recording as well.

I have Paul's solo album, The Paul Simon Songbook, and also the  Wednesday Morning 3am EP ( I don't think the album of that name was released in the U.K. ). The Sound of Silence is on both. I feel that the solo version of that song is infinitely better. I also have a solo version of I am a Rock. Again, so much better than the joint version. Together, at that time, I felt they sounded too much like Peter and Gordon. That's why I try to ignore Art's existence in the mid 60s.
They got better, and I like their later joint albums.
