.........at www.motorcyledaily. com. It's taking some heat 'cause it's not fast enough for some. What's new?

Link seems broken, but after trading my Griso for a V9, I'd say "not fast enough" is more about bragging rights than rider skill. Numbers don't matter nearly as much as experience on a twisty road, and stoplight-to-stoplight or bar-to-bar racing is both stupid and boring.
Those guys aren't likely to ride a Guzzi in the first place.
Most of the "not fast enough" crowd also believes loud pipes save lives and ATGATT is for sissies. They usually sneer a lot, ride in lowest-common-denominator packs and are easily passed. Of course, I really don't have any strong opinions about such things ...

They seem to think the power is fine for the street.
"Our first few rides on the bike reveal an extremely torquey power delivery, i.e., strong pull just off idle that signs off quickly, just as the claimed power figures suggest. This bike won’t be winning many drag races, but it is still satisfyingly strong at street rpm levels. This is helped by a relatively low curb weight (Moto Guzzi claims 439 pounds wet)."

This article includes a couple of photos that mostly capture how gorgeous these motorcycles are in person. I really dig these bikes...

I haven't seen one of these in it's natural habitat, but I was fortunate to sit on one at a trade show.
I have odd geometry. 6' w/34" inseam. I found the Bobber i sat on very comfortable. Felt great. Oddly, the gal I was with is 5'2" and also thought the bike felt great. The reading I've done leads me to think I'd opt for the Roamer, of the two, but I'd be happy with either. If it shows up in red on these shores, I may be making some poor decisions....
here's 5'2" of Jalisco's finest getting all excited about a standard. She thought she wanted Triumph.

they do look better in the metal.
I guess it's every moto-journalists duty to inform folks that these are not fast bikes. I don't read it as a criticism. I like to say the V7 and V9 are more chassis-limited than HP limited.

Sorry but fast sells, and if it can't keep up with the competition in this small market then they limit the bike to old guys which Guzzi already has covered in spades.
Comment from the article: "If the target audience is a senior citizen buying his last motorcycle, that makes sense. But if the target audience is new riders, why would they choose the V9 over a V7, which looks better and costs less? New riders also have an assortment of lower-cost Japanese models to choose from."

Relatively lightweight and torquey, with a rorty sound and a singular look...I prefer to think of the V9 as "an enthusiast's bike." If I ever buy another bike, it will likely be in the V9's class.

The retro market is huge. Are people really deciding between a Triumph Street Twin versus a V9 based on which is faster? I'd guess that quickness is not one of the top 3 criteria. Both are more than fast enough for a retro.

That's not a comment from the article. It's a comment about the article from a user with a username that reveals his bias: bmbktmracer .

And it's a valid comment IMO.
