Title: Highway 19 Missouri
Post by: Hymes Inc. on August 09, 2017, 11:12:46 AM
It's my new favorite road. On the tail end of a 2 day ride to southern Missouri and back. We got on 19 in Eminence and headed north. Pure bliss, all the way past highway 70. Will be riding that road more in the future.

I know that road... in 1980 I was visiting friends in Batesville, Arkansas and left for the antique airplane flyin in Iowa. I drove the entire length of 19 and went through Hannibal Missouri, as I recall. Never done it on a bike though. Now, that would be fun. What I remember most about that trip is the Iowa Trooper that gave me a ticket for 5 mph over. Seems they don't have any sense of humor in Iowa. Hey, that makes sense, for my ex is from Iowa.

That's a good one! It was a high point of my trip to Arkansas a couple of years ago, the derecho tour.

I am gonna have to try 19 out.  I was looking at incorporating it into my eclipse route, but a bit too far out of the way and am getting worried about all the warnings of heavy traffic (no fun).

Right now looking at Marshal for the target destination coming up from the South on 65.

Come in to Springfield, we can back road it over to the east and stay off of 44. go somewhere by Merimack state park. Tim's is goin on the Strada

They've had some bigfoot sightings nearby, I'm sure he'll freak the @#$% out when the eclipse hits!

Highway 19 is only a few miles from me.  A great place to visit is Hermann, Missouri, right where 19 crosses the Missouri River.  There is a little city campground there and lots of wineries in the area.  Plan on spending the night, there are a lot of cute shops in town and good places to eat.

Herman was a very nice looking town. Could have spent hours walking around looking at stuff.

Hey guzzer, we should get together for lunch or something sometime. Hard to beat a good bratwurst and
Some kraut from the Rhine of Missouri country!

Yes, 19 is a roller coaster type of road. I run it all the time whenever I'm heading north. More than once as I've come over another steep hill I hope there is not a broke down vehicle or someone backing out of a drive, because I know I couldn't stop. And then I crank it back to 80 and enjoy the ride.

Put 19 on your bucket list.

Got a performance certificate by the MSHP just north of I 44 years ago on the old T.
Made a mad dash once from Hermann to Mark Twain lake in an absurd time. Had the old GL 1000 in warp drive.

Btw, the park is Meramec State Park.

If you like 19 try MO 185.

There were 3 of us on Chris's trip, Chris on his V7, his older brother Jeremy on his big new Harley, and my old butt tagging along on a 36 year old GS850. It's safe to say they like the curves a bit more than I do. That V7 was on rails, the Harley kept up, my life was flashing before my eyes. I made it, tho. From Eminence to Salem was something like 44 miles of constant hills & sweeping curves. I run the world's biggest chicken strips, and they were ruining my reputation. There is no way the Tail of the Dragon would be any better.
