There's a 2011 Stelvio for sale locally: http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/Moto-Guzzi-Stelvio-1200_29231874.lite
Reading reviews it looks like this is actually a late 2010 model as it still has the gas tank cubby hole which, according to the CycleWorld review was deleted for the 2011 model.
Is there a compelling reason to choose a newer version over this one?

The main issue is that the ad doesn't mention whether the bike has had the conversion to roller tappets performed. If it has not, there are many other threads here that will tell you why this is important and the impact on value it has when not performed.
As for the bike otherwise, there aren't many really big differences between various years of the pre-NTX Stelvio. The big change is when the NTX became the default North American model, since it had all the extras already in place - big tank, luggage, engine guards, lights, and more. Others here are more expert and can offer more detailed information.

Thanks
I asked the seller and it does not have roller tappets.
Looks like the roller conversion parts are over $1000!

As a 2011 it should only need a 'B' kit which is still a bit of a pain to install on a small tank Stelvio due to all the shitty bodywork above the tank but its fiddly, not difficult. $738.21 from TLM. At that mileage it will probably be showing some wear but is unlikely to have dropped its bundle completely. Try and get a price drop to cover the 'B' kit and a pull of the swingers to grease/replace the bearings and grease the shock linkage needle rollers and you'll probably be golden!
Make no mistake though, it DOES need rollerizing.

Thanks Pete. Looking at your past posts I can tell you're a respected Guzzi authority!

Is this the 'B' kit for the 2010?

Yah. C kit for 2008-mid 2010, B kit for mid 2010 to some point in 2011, A kit from then on until rollerisation was done at the factory in mid 2012.
The identifiers are simple enough. If the paint on the inner side of the head is untouched then you need a C kit. If there is a drill mark in the paint and you have the long spark plug tube sealed in the rocker cover with an o-ring you need a B kit. If your plug tube is sealed to the rocker cover with a thick neoprene gasket of the same type as the main rocker cover gasket and the plug tube is shorter and just goes between the head casting and the rocker support/cambox then you need an A kit. 1200 Sports were never built with rollers so later ones of those need the stand alone D kit which is a combination of A and C kit components.

Thanks Pete. I forgot to add the link in my previous post: http://www.tlm.nl/webshop/en/camshaft-kit-b-8v-09-10-stelvi-1a002063-moto-guzzi

Yup, that's a B kit!
Look, if you find it needs a C kit it's no big deal, you just buy the gaskets, shims and seals separately. It works out cheaper than a C kit.
