Well this bike is becoming increasingly irritating. Back to the dealer once again today. Put some miles on it since I got it back. Not many at all Just a few hundred plus. Came out the other day and noticed the rear wheel full of oil.
There also was a palm full puddle at the rear tire. I thought maybe it was overfilled and would settle down.
Wiped wheel and tire off of the oil and went for a ride. Nope, about 60 miles later oil on the wheel again.
So, back to the dealer again. probably a seal went bad.
SUCKS!
Any one else have an issue like this?
Brought the bike in for the leak they had it two weeks got it back and still leaked. Took pics and sent them to the dealer they said the sent them to corporate, brought back in, in early September stressed my dissatisfaction. Didn't hear anything at all after a month and one half. E-mailed them on status said they are still waiting for a NEW final drive to arrive from Italy. Boy this has been crazy since I bought the bike in late May!

Unfortunately there was a machining issue with the earlier rear diffs that cause leaks. They should just replace your diff with the update part and it will solve the issue.

Ok, that would be great. This was sold as a 2017 but on the steering neck say's 03/16

There is a serial # stamped into the rear diff. If I think about I'll find the cutoff # tomorrow for you.

Bumped for the update

My rear breather sprayed oil on the back wheel until I did the first service myself. Once I put the correct level of oil in there it hasn’t repeated this since then. I dunno if this will help you or not but I offer it up.

So the update is it's a known problem, and you still don't have your bike?!? :thewife:

Kevin, yes, it is a known problem on some of the earlier ones. So, at this time I am waiting for the dealer to receive the new final drive and for them to install it. So far since I dropped it off one and one half months.

Thanks for the offer but this was definitely not the issue. I will keep your breather problem in mind though. Thanks

I am really sorry to hear this. Crap if you were local I'd literally loan you mine!
Hang in there, I suspect it's a really nice bike and will be a pleasure once sorted.
But you shouldn't have to endure this!!!

The dealership should at least give you a loaner bike (along with free coffee and donuts).
A motorcycle dealership may not have the same cash flow as a car dealership, but they should still strive for good customer service.
When my car developed engine troubles very early on, the dealership could not diagnose the problem without the involvement of factory engineers located a world away. While my car sat in the shop for two months, the dealership provided me with a very nice loaner car, offered to unwind the deal, and even made my car payments for me.
Here’s a thought: Moto Guzzi should provide all dealers with at least one leftover V7 to be used as a loaner...

One of the last tech bulletins I Recieved when I was still a service agent concerned the new availability of special tools to disassemble both the Cali 14 and V9 bevelboxes. Why don't they just buy the tools and repair it?
Kev, V9's use a completely new driveshaft, swingarm and FD. Yours wouldn't fit.

No I was saying if he was local he could just ride my V7 for a while.

Ah, gotcha. :thumb:

They are not going to repair it using a non-factory recommended method because this is a warranty issue and they want the manufacturer to pay for the repair. Also, reporting it to the manufacturer could help others as they may release a TSB or even have a recall to fix all bikes with the same parts.
-
Too bad MG wouldn't let them just swap a swing arm and bevel box off another bike and fix that one when the parts come in. Of course they could even put grease on the bone dry swing arm bearings while they were changing them out!

Ask the dealer to give you the Guzzi demo V9 or even V7. That might be possible depending on where you are located. Dealers may be sharing one...That's what the dealer here in Toronto did for a guy whose clutch went out and parts were backordered...seems fair.
